"Avalon Resort is located in the beautiful rural mountains of Paw Paw, WV. We’ve visited it several times and really wanted to give it a review because of the great experiences we have there. Avalon has a lot to offer and being a year round open resort in the north is a huge plus. They offer memberships, camping both primitive and RV, condo rentals / sales, chalet rental, a hotel / lodge room rentals, indoor and outdoor pools and hot tubs, (3 hot tubs alone outdoor and 1 inside), a formal sit down dining area with meals prepared (somewhat pricey for the quality, but convenient), a full service bar with pool table and slot machines (nude only), plenty of hiking trails, pickle ball, and a large recreational building referred to as “The Barn” equipped also with a bar and used for functions and dances. The staff is incredible and will go out of their way to help you out. We’ve become friends with several of them in the course of our visits. Avalon is more like a community than a resort in that folks live in and around it year around. This most recent visit was no different than any previous visits…We had, and always have, a wonderful drama-free time while there. Rules and regulations are enforced appropriately but not to the level of being overbearing. We like that. A short drive east takes you into the little country town of Paw Paw, WV. A gas station, Dollar General and I imagine a church or two. The gas station has a deli and we have to say they make some of the absolute best Italian hoagies we have ever had. We joke about driving down, (125 miles), sometimes just to get a hoagie even if not visiting Avalon. Avalon schedules many activities and bring in a variety of entertainment. Their website and newsletter are very informative. You won’t regret making a visit here, it’s well worth the experience and beauty." – R & S from Pennsylvania

"We finally went after a long time of hearing how great it was. Highly disappointed with the amenities. Highly disappointed with the amount of swingers that are VERY open and forward. Place is promoted as a Family Friendly resort. . .but I wouldn’t bring my kids here. After some research online…..it appears as though it has been going on there for quite some time. We won’t be back." – Philly Nudist Couple from Pennsylvania

"I had come upon nudism when I googled ‘stress relief’ and for years wanted to try it. Finally, I did and really enjoyed it. I went to Avalon alone as a single male and was welcomed by a number of people. One couple in particular were very friendly and made the point of including me in a lot of activities including pickleball which was a lot of fun and partying at their camper, the dance, etc. I saw no indication of sexual activity or misbehavior.
The only reason that my review is not 5 stars across the board is because it is an older facility, but everything is very well kept and clean. When I was there, they were getting ready to refurbish the hot tubs. Other than that, all facilities were in very good condition.

There was a brief event late on Saturday night when one hotel guest was drunk and angry. Management handled him with the highest level of professionalism, and I saw him packing up to leave early Sunday morning-this on a long holiday weekend. These things can happen anywhere that people gather, and management and other regulars handled the situation beautifully. Rather than a negative; it highlighted the quality of the resort.
I stayed in a tent, on the lawn behind the outside pool and it was very convenient.

I’m looking forward to going back in 2017 and maybe becoming a member in the near future. I just need to have a lady to tag along with me; it would be so much more fun being a part of a couple.

I would encourage anyone-especially women with body shame issues- to spend a weekend at Avalon. You’ll see what everybody says about nudism-it’s a great way to relax and forget your troubles in a judgement free, friendly atmosphere. It is truly different than a normal campground-far more relaxing and fun." – J from West Virginia

"I had wanted to experience nudist life in a social setting so decided to camp for one night on the 4 of July weekend. I had not made prior reservations, but was welcomed to stay overnight. I was told the term to describe those newbies like me is ‘Whitetails’ … I thought that was hilarious.

The resort is currently experiencing a forest management plan, so there were signs of considerable land/tree disturbance, which is understandable. I was able to find a good tent site around the 400’s section and setup camp in a pinch. Aside from the getting used to shedding ropes, I didn’t feel overly stressed. I was quickly approached by another newbies to this place and we hung around and enjoyed the most amazing fireworks spectacle I have ever seen. I had arrived late in the afternoon, so didn’t get to see or experience all the amenities. The place was moderately occupied by visitors and everyone was friendly but minded their own business. There were both clothed and unclothed humans everywhere and none seemed to care about what you wore or not. Zero overtly sexual conduct, kids running around free, pets leashed and an atmosphere of calmness. I didn’t use any of the amenities since I needed to get on the go early the next day for a kayaking trip, but did see a nice clean looking pool area. Definitely, will be back and hope to see all the forest management plan finally implemented and the camp areas updated. The restrooms looked to be older but seem well maintained, with hot water for showers and fitted with toiletries." – J from West Virginia

"Our first nude in public experience was when our cruise stopped at St. Martin in 1998 and we found our way to Club Orient. We loved it and returned every year for well over a decade. In August 2001, we decided (got our courage up) to try a local (but not too local) nudist resort and chose Avalon because it was a reasonable 3-hour drive from Southern MD. . .but far enough away so we would not meet anyone we knew. We loved it! After the tragedy of 9-11 we NEEDED to get away and went back. The frendly, welcoming people made our weekend just the therapy we needed. Before leaving we had become members. We have stayed in the lodge rooms. We have rented condos for the weekend. We have camped in the campground and now we own a Condo. . .and love Avalon. It is the most friendly, non-judgemental, welcoming place we have ever been! We highly recommend a visit!" – Bill from Maryland

"My first trip to this resort was all good. The driving directions were accurate. I arrived there and checked in with no problem. I attended an aqua therapy class both days I was there. The hot tubs were perfect after the aqua therapy. I ate at their restaurant and I was not disappointed with the food or service. Everyone was friendly and helpful. I had drinks at the bar and socialized with the residents and other visitors. It was a wonderful evening. The room I had was clean and neat. I walked around the grounds to find a much larger resort than I was expecting. I hated to leave. I will go back." – Paul from West Virginia

"One specific issue we have with nude resorts (been to two) is the unequal percentages of male/female. At Avalon it was around 60%/40%. Some single men but a good amount of couples. My wife feels very comfortable at Avalon because she is among 10-20 other women. We both love it at Avalon. Our only visits have been during the winter so we are looking forward to being outside in the summer by the pool. Very relaxing, love the water volleyball and the food is excellent. It is in the mountains of West Virgina and it’s a 45 minute drive to civilization. We haven’t stayed overnight but we did see a room and it looks nice.

It is amazing how comfortable a new nudist (3 years) can be walking in front of other nude people. Even after 3 years it still seems new to us. In our 4 visits we haven’t noticed anything overtly sexual. It’s just been an amazing experience for us. The fact that my wife loves to go is something for which to be thankful as I understand many wives arent interested. Everyone has been helpful and I’ve not felt out of place asking questions, walking around exploring or just sitting by the pool or in the jacuzzi watching everyone else. It was different dancing in the nude, in front of others who were nude, or partially nude. What a blast!" – Ralph from Pennsylvania

"We stayed for New Years Eve weekend Dec. 31,2012. Wife and I agreed it was our best new years eve ever! Avalon is a special place with a wonderful staff. We came to Avalon for the first time in Sept 2012 looking for a quiet and rustic camp site. This was our first time at a nude/clothing optional resort. The camp site had tall trees and a small creek running down the side of the hill. We saw Deer at dusk running the nature trail on the ridge across the creek. We have a travel trailer and loved the campground. We went to the indoor pool/spa area and found it a very clean, relaxing area. We found friendly and warm people, always a relaxed and polite tone. We came first time Sept 2012 and have been back twice a month since then, became full members on New Years Weekend."

"Avalon is a quiet, peaceful place, located in a beautiful part of northeastern West Virginia. The drive to get here is relaxing, with plenty of rolling hills and scenic vistas. The resort itself is both modern and rustic. There is no cell phone coverage, but who wants that on an occasion such as this. There is no pressure to disrobe, but you will find you want to be naked pretty quickly. The fresh air, the quietness of the countryside, and the serenity of this resort — you can’t go wrong at Avalon. And all of the people here are very nice and easygoing. My favorite part of the visit was nude hiking through the many beautiful trails, with nothing more than good hiking shoes and a bottle of water. I must have hiked for two hours. What a peaceful way to spend the day. I will return to Avalon many times. I love this resort!" – Steve from D.C.

"We have been going to Avalon for a little over a year, and we like it very much. In fact, we just leased a campsite with a 5th wheel camper and expect to go more often. People are very nice and it is a quiet and relaxing place. Dance most every Sat night, with either live band or DJ. Food is pretty good. Folks that go there could not be nicer. Highly recommend a visit" – Randy from Virginia

"This was my wife’s first experience as a nudist. And we now wish we had gone a long time ago. We are now at a time in our lives where we can do more together (without children) and going back to Avalon will be on the calendar often. The staff, members and other visitors were great people and very easy to be around. They made our stay very memorable. We can’t say enough about them or the weekend we were there. I believe it could be one of the friendliest places on the east coast. I could not recommend it more to anyone new or old to visit a naturist resort."
