Things to See in Belgium

Belgium is one of the most lovely places to visit in Europe. If you are planning to visit Belgium, you are going to have a wonderful experience. However, I am a bit biased, as Belgium is my dream destination! When I was on a European Holiday, it was a great introduction to its diverse culture, which means to say that I’m a culture lover. Belgium is very diverse and offers travelers a wide range of historical, cultural, and traditional travel experiences. What Belgium offers travelers and what the places are there to visit, this blog includes only some of the highlights for you. So here are some of the top places to visit and a bit of information about what you can do in those places.

Brussels Welcomes You to Explore it in Detail

Brussels Street Scene

The Street Scene in Brussels, Belgium

Brussels is a must-visit city in Belgium. It will probably the first place you enter Belgium as Brussels is home to the International Airport and luckily it’s a great place to start to explore the country’s culture and the true colors of the land and its people. Belgium has a diverse range of places to visit. It may include the old Museums displaying their times, historic architectural buildings, and the coffee cafes which help preserve the country’s coffee culture.

The quaint architecture makes me want to sit on one of the fine terraces and feel the historical and traditional vibes with the accent of our modern society because of the globalization factor. For example, make sure you visit the Gothic town hall. This building will take you back to the 13th century. The other place is the Royale Palace which you should also visit and surrounding shops in the cobblestone streets in Brussels. One thing I noticed was that Brussels is cleaner than Germany and the city is more picturesque too.

You will know how culturally clean and historically rich Brussels is. It will give you the paintings made in old times in the Art museums of the town. There is a flower event to welcome the spring season in Brussels. You can witness the biennial event on the lawn of the Grand palace if you are visiting Belgium in August. It is a bed, or you can say the carpet of flowers showcased to welcome the autumn in the home.

Bruges is Just Like a Venice

An old city, just an hour away from Brussels, will give you a perfect historical impact. I have listened to it from many travelers and observed it myself that the Bruges looks like Venice. You can visit yourself and take the pleasure of the traditional city. There are various UNESCO designated World Heritage Sites in Bruges that you should make sure you visit.

There are a lot of Museums to visit. You can have a coffee with a local friend. Do you know Bruges is also famous for the chocolates? You will be asked by your friends and the kids at home about the chocolates. So bring some good chocolates from the shops in the town. You will have a great opportunity to have the best traditional European foods in the restaurants of Bruges. It is truly a great place for Travel foodies to visit.

Do You Enjoy Watching War and Tragedy?

Battle of Waterloo Reenactment

Battle of Waterloo Reenactment

Belgium is also the location of the Battle of Waterloo, which is a must-see for travelers. It is the place wherein 1815 British General Wellington defeated Napoleon. If you are visiting Belgium in June, you will have a perfect environment of the festivals, and the plays, acts, and theater all over. Wellington Museum will tell you all the story in a very interactive way.

I really enjoy war and tragedy, “The Pianist” and all that type of movie are my favorite ones. What does it mean here? Yes. In Belgium, you will also witness the sites of World War II. There are some museums for the memories of the allied forces who fought in the battle of the bulge, which took place in 1944/5. If you love to know that all Belgium is a place for you.

Ghent, Another Historical City

Belgium Ghent Water Canal

Ghent Water Canal

Ghent is another historical impression of Belgium. Sometimes I think, How historical and romantic Belgium is, and how lucky the people of Belgium are, who live in such a historical place. I went to many historical and cultural cities, but what I found in Belgium was nowhere else, I would say. Coming back to Ghent, It has a lot of cafes to have a coffee sip and the historical talk with the local friend. You can couch surf and find a friend on social media. You will find many historical war-time sites and buildings, including the Castle of counts, the fortresses, and the artworks of the day for the artistic introduction of the war-time.

Beer Trip to Belgium

Belgian Beer
It is a need of any traveler if you see. I will recommend the travelers who want to have Beer in Belgium, get a bar in Brussels, you will have a perfect classic Beer with the party scene.
There are more than 700 types of beer produced in Belgium, good? Yes, Good for you. If you like a Lambic Beer or the blend of many, head towards Chimay and Notre-Dame de Scourmont Abbey. It is the best place to visit. Locals told me that there are monks living there and have been producing the pure, best beer for so long, maybe dated back to 1860s.

Visiting Belgium with Kids and Family

Belgium is like a Mini Europe having all the perfect opportunities for your kids and family too. For example, if you are traveling Belgium for this Christmas, there are plenty of Christmas activities for you there. There are a lot of Museums for the kids with the Fairy tales and the horror scenes and the things of their interests. There is a Theme park for the kids with the markets for your kid’s toys and clothes to buy. And yes, There are a number of Zoos all over Belgium with a great natural environment to feel good with. Chocolate Museum, Comic centers, and the places to have water activities like the Minnewater Lake are some prominent places to visit in Belgium.
