Florida is blessed with many diverse landscapes. We have areas that are heavily populated with large metropolitan areas like Miami or Tampa/St. Petersburg and then we have Loxahatchee which is tucked away in Southeast Florida on the edge of Lake Okeechobee and the Everglades. The land here is not as swampy as it is a little further south and it is home to many horse farms and tropical plant nurseries. Driving through the dirt roads of Loxahatchee Groves with it’s thick tropical foliage of bamboo and palms you will find Sun Sport Gardens Family Naturist Resort. Sun Sport is the most naturally tropical naturist resort in the USA. Upon entering the grounds the first sign you will see is “nudity is expected.”
Sun Sport Gardens Family Naturist Resort
Sun Sport is the leading “family friendly” resort in Florida and perhaps the nation. They welcome nudists of all ages, gender, sexual identity and disabling condition. The resort has full time residents, seasonal tourists and day visitors. They are open 365 days a year and strive to provide an environmentally sensitive experience. Smoking is not allowed except in out of the way designated areas, alcohol and soda are not sold; however, they may be brought in for personal use by visitors and residents. Sun Sport has been open for over 50 years. Their restaurant serves healthy, delicious and nutritious meals using no trans fats. They have vegetarian and vegan selections and special diets can be accommodated with meals specifically prepared to meet any dietary need. All food is home made and the restaurant is open daily, except Wednesday, from 11:00AM to 1:00PM for lunch and 6:00PM till 8:00 PM for dinner. The club house also hosts a fitness center, TV room, extensive library, pool table and laundry facility.
The resort has a variety of accommodations to meet all needs. Cabins, rooms and trailers are available to rent. Camping sites for RV’s, trailers and tents are available throughout the resort. Keep in mind that winter season reservations may need to be made far in advance especially during special events.
Sun Sport’s pool and spa are clothing free at all times weather permitting. The pool is solar heated and kept at a year-round comfortable temperature of 87 degrees. The pool is treated with salt and has little to no chlorine.
The hot tub spa is maintained at 102 degrees and the dry sauna is located adjacent to the pool area. Shower areas are located throughout the resort and are stocked with chemical free shay oil soaps from Vermont. Seating is comfortably arranged around the pool perimeter and on the grass just outside of the pool fence. An indoor lodge is adjacent to the pool and is used for weekly Saturday night dances, occasional square dances, yoga, game nights, children’s events and holiday parties.
Tennis, volleyball and petanque are available with events scheduled daily throughout the year. Players of all levels/skill are welcome to participate. Kayaking and “canuding” are also available on Sun Sport’s lakes and nearby canals. A large children’s park is located next to the club house offering a variety of apparatuses to climb and swing on. Check their website for the water aerobics, yoga and line dancing schedules. The resort sits on 40 acres much of which is wooded with great hiking throughout the grounds where you can view interesting and unique fauna, tropical animals and many species of birds. Over 40 varieties of fruit trees grow wild on the property with fresh fruit available in season throughout the year. Drum circles are held on the first Friday of the month and are free to the general public. The drum circles have frequently attracted young aspiring naturists to their first nudist event and result in many return visits. Sun Sport charges very low daily grounds fees for young adults 18-30 with proper ID. Dog runs are available within the park for our four- legged friends and all roads within the resort are pedestrian and bicycle friendly.
What really makes Sun Sport unique is it’s variety of special events. They host a week- long Family Youth Camp each July with families attending from across the nation. On a quarterly basis they host special weekend events for young naturist adults and each winter in February they host The Mid-Winter Naturist Festival. The next festival will take place from February 14th – 19th, 2019. The festival specializes in personal growth, energy work and spirituality. Activities include numerous workshops on relationships, body acceptance, astrology, meditation, naturism, Christianity and Pagan ritual, nutrition, etc. The arts will be celebrated through visual art, song, dance and theatre. Yoga, circle dancing, karaoke, square dancing, drum circles, movies, craft making, body painting, photography and much more will be offered daily. Ecology discussions will be held throughout the festival regarding ecosystems, smart growth, permaculture, sustainable living and environmental action. Join in nature hikes and bird walks. I plan on being there and host several discussions, so drop by and say hello. My wife and I will be leading the bird walk on the weekend, please join us, the more the merrier. Sun Sport Gardens Naturist Resort is a gem that needs to be seen to enjoy.

Jan & Gary,
It is a great spot, gets very busy in the winter months with snow birds, very popular with French Canadian naturists. I will be there mid February for a week.
