The Royal Solaris Los Cabos is one of the largest all inclusive resort hotels in Los Cabos resort area. This beach-front resort in the San Jose Del Cabo area. The Royal Solaris Los Cabos is “all-inclusive” which means your food and drinks are included in the room price. Meals are buffet style and offer decent food, but not gourmet by any standard. The Royal Solaris Cabo Hotel is popular with families and is quite full most of the time. The hotel has 3 large pools, but are usually very busy areas with vacant sun-lounges a precious commodity. It does offer a separate kids club with supervised activity center and a teen club with pool tables and video games. The Royal Solaris Cabo Hotel has a great beach in front of hotel, but is not good for swimming due to strong undertow current. This busy hotel is popular with families looking for a 3+ or 4- star all-inclusive Cabo resort.

"Royal Solaris Travelers beware! If you only read one review on Royal Solaris READ THIS ONE! My wife and I have been to Mexico over a dozen times. This time we stayed at the Royal Solaris May 19-24, 2014. We arrived late on May 19th, a Monday. By the time we had met with Karina, our concierge and Stan, her supervisor and got settled, all we wanted to do is have a drink, something to eat and call it a night. The time with Karina and Stan was extensive and all about what they were going to do for us during our stay in exchange for attending a short, no obligation, time-share presentation, ours scheduled for Thursday morning. It was about 8pm and Poncho’s restaurant was not open and Marco polo restaurant was booked, so we caught the tail end of the show in the show room and the buffet there which was pretty poor. Little did we know this would be the norm. The Resort is attractive with a nice setting on the beach. It’s older, but appeared to be well maintained. The room was clean, and comfortable with the exception of the closet way where one door hit one another and one of them had a stop that made the door bounce right back at your face if opened too quickly. We had a mini safe for valuables and a micro fridge stocked with beer, water and soda, and coffee maker. The beach is a no swim beach and there were no water activities besides the pool. The sink in our room always drained slowly and the sewer drain backed up Wednesday morning. They cleaned the room, but did not clear the drain, although it never backed up a second time.

The Food was terrible. In fact the food was not only bad, but restrictive. We never had a sit down meal on the resort all week. Poncho’s, their Mexican restaurant was closed on Monday, the day we arrived, as well as Tuesday and Wednesday. Marco Polo’s was only open on Monday and Wednesday. We did try to eat at Marco Polo on the Wednesday when it was open. It was terrible! They had a limited menu that night with a choice of 3 entrees. My wife said her fish dish was not edible and the NY strip I ordered was shaved so thin, I swear it only had one side, yet still tough as a leather shoe. We walked out of the place after one bite of our meal. Breakfast. Throughout our stay there was a push to have guests eat at buffets. I would not even call them buffets. After a couple days it was clear that they were the same day after day. It was more like eating at a pig trough than a buffet. The breakfast though changed very little, with the exception of adding whatever was left over from the previous night’s dinner trough. The eggs, bacon and other foods appeared to have been prepared the night before and prepped for reheating the next morning. In a word, the trough food was absolutely disgusting! The only salvation was that you could order fresh cooked eggs or an omelet, which was all we would eat. The Lunch trough was the only place to eat besides the pool snack foods which didn’t look good and we avoided. Again the lunch trough changed little and there was nothing that was palatable, let alone exceptional. You thought you might see fajitas or tacos or light American fair, but you would be wrong. Beans and rice everyday and every buffet along with a couple of petite entrees like a fish or something. Always there was something served from the previous night’s dinner trough. They really bragged about their new pizza hut so we ordered one, waited 45 minutes for a pizza that did not have the toppings we ordered, and tasted like crap and they would not re-prepare. There are no sit down restaurants open for lunch. The Dinner choices were not choices. The high end restaurant, Marco Polo was only open 2 days in the week we were there. The Mexican restaurant, Poncho’s was open only one day that I know of. We were regularly steered to the trough, to feed like pigs. That was the only option most days and nights. Dinner troughs had the same slop that they served for breakfast and lunch with the exception of adding a couple of choices for a beef, pork or chicken dish. We live in buffet heaven, Las Vegas, and believe me the kind of buffets we were offered at this resort would NOT be found in the above $5 class in Vegas. The Kitchen on the resort is a single kitchen and the restaurants are only faced front openings for the common kitchen. There are no chefs. I confirmed this with Moses who used to work at the resort. He now works at SOL, a very nice restaurant and bar in downtown San Jose Del Cabo. All meals are prepared by the same cooks and from the same kitchen, no matter what you have to eat at Royal Solaris. The Drinks were a joke. There were only 2 beers offered on the resort, Tecate and Modelo and usually not very cold. The spirits were the bottom shelf with the exception of JB scotch and Jim Beam whisky. The mixers were basically doctored cool aids. The mixed drinks and tropical drinks were nasty and they poured the liquor like they were using an eye dropper. There was no way to feel the effects of these drinks unless you are a guzzler. We ordered a margarita the first night and could not finish them they we so bad.

Members of Royal Solaris, those that have shelled out $20,000 for special treatments in food and drink, were not happy. Members that we spoke with like Shauna and Patrick from Texas were not satisfied with food and drink on the resort, but were afraid to leave to venture into town and on a budget. Fortunately, my wife and I are experienced travelers and not afraid to leave the resort and wander the town where we found exceptional food and drink. At Don Sanchez we found 5-star dining and were treated like royalty. One of the chefs, Javier, even prepared a special dish for our anniversary, which was truly spectacular. We had our best times away from the resort. The Pool was clean when we spent some time pool side on Tuesday. We spent some time poolside on Thursday as well, but the pool had a thick layer of oil film and it appeared that the skimmers were not operational. We were able to have a cold beer that day though from the swim up bar that we did not swim up to due to the nastiness of the pool that day. The Service was satisfactory over all. Housekeeping was great and cleaned our room daily. Our room fridge was stocked full each day, that is until we reached our Thursday morning sales presentation. After we declined to buy into a time-share, our fridge was never re-stocked again! They punished us for not buying into the time share scheme. The Amenities were skimpy. There is no internet access at all. Even the business center computers had a fee attached. This was a real problem. I could not print a boarding pass, confirm reservation or check email. In fact, our return flight on US Air had changed its departure time by a full hour earlier and we could not receive the notification. It was pure luck that we arrived for our departing flight on Saturday very early, where we learned of the change when we arrived at the airport.

The Entertainment was nice. Most people enjoyed the shows. Personally, we thought they were very amateur with the exception of one female dancer, Frankie, who was very good. The Sales Pitch to buy a time share the sole purpose for the existence of this resort. Their advertising and marketing is a 100% bait and switch commodity. They are truly not interested in having guests return based upon the overall experience on the resort. They are solely focused on extracting $20,000 for their time-share deal. Buy it, and you may receive a little more attention and perhaps more variety. Decline it and you are treated like a sub class slob. After we declined there seemed to be a change in the entire attitude of the staff. We did receive a nice massage on the beach, but the sundown dinner cruise we were offered was a bait and switch from gourmet meal to more trough food, but still a nice cruise. The staff stopped contacting us to assist with our stay and a request for a single amenity, a few minutes of internet access, was declined. If you are interested in low class food and drink and blowing 20k for a membership to say you are a member, this is the place for you. But, if you are looking for a nice vacation spot and expecting top quality ANYTHING, don’t walk, run away from the Royal Solaris! "Check-in was very disorganized. Not clear as to what to do. We and several other couples took our own bags to our rooms. Our room was nice, but small TV, remote that didn’t work, no radio or clock, no in-room coffee or tea for the mornings. Very bad beds with old scratchy sheets. Lots of food, but often cold and could not figure out what it was. The one nite fish assortment was very poor. Went to town for a good fish dinner twice, as we found we were not getting it there. We were bored a lot because we would be busy all day and coming back it would have been great to have some nice Mexico music, but nothing even early evening. The only thing were children’s games or dancing and maybe a singer. We were hoping for something lively. The play that was held was Grease and to be honest we can see it played better at the local school at home. "Worst experience ever. The bed was hard as rocks, the shower had no hot water and barely worked. The food was the worst I have ever had at an all-inclusive, very cheap. Had to book special area or be on a time-share to be treated decently. To top the experience off, got the “runs” from the food and had to spend time dealing with that. The staff wakes you up by moving carts and making lots of noise before 7am (depends on where your room is) and if you want to relax by the beach you get bombarded by solicitors even if you are on “the right side” of the barrier…Defiantly. "My family just got home from visiting the Royal Solaris and the previous comments are almost unbelievable. My experience there was fantastic! The rooms are decent, the food is decent, the entertainment staff are INCREDIBLE!! They really are what made the trip so memorable. All of them were fantastic! We appreciate the friendly kid friendly atmosphere. As for people who get mad about kids running around the resort, it’s a family resort. Thats life. I don’t appologize for my kids being there, even if they annoyed other people. If you don’t want kids around, go to a resort where kids aren’t allowed! "We had a wonderful vacation and we were treated royally. The staff were friendly, helpful and made us feel very special. My one and only complaint is they went all out for the time-share people with exclusive meal and entertainment. For the rest of us there was not alot to do in the evenings, and we would have liked to have been included in the entertainment.
