"The Allegro Playacar beach and pool area were very beautiful. Location to downtown Playa del Carmen was good and the shows were excellent! The food in the buffet was the most disgusting thing I have ever seen. The food was unrecognizable. We took pictures to show our friends and family and it looked like slop in bowls and metal pans. They didn’t even attempt to make it look nice. The breakfast was ok. There is no lunch buffet and the suppers were terrible. Luckily, from 2 – 4 p.m. they served hamburgers and hot dogs by the pool so we could get a "decent" meal. The rooms are another story. When we first got there, they told us we had to check in at a "special" desk and took us to the vacation club to sign up for that. When we told them no, they put us in a room with ants crawling all over it (room 5803). We asked for a new room and were put in 5615 that was a 2nd floor room with a 30ft thatched roof ceiling. The room stunk like mold, mildew and something else indescribable. There is nowhere to put your clothes so we lived out of our suitcase, the bathroom tiles look like they were falling off and they took cement and slapped it on to keep the tiles on. The toilet didn’t flush unless you held the handle down the whole time. The chairs in the room were broken so you couldn’t sit on them and the bedside table doors fell off it you opened them. The mattress is on a cement slab so was very hard to sleep on. Also, there is no air-conditioning in the entire resort except the Italian restaurant. They said the rooms had air but it didn’t work. We couldn’t open the windows for an ocean breeze because the screens were broken. We would walk through other resorts on the block to get cooled off once in a while. We asked for a wake up call the morning we were going on a tour and never got it. Therefore, we would never stay at this resort again and discourage anyone else from going there. Spend alittle extra and stay somewhere else." – Mark and Marianne from Crystal Lake, Illinois
"This was my third visit to Allegro Playacar and I plan to return again. Firstly, the staff is incredible. The friendliness and professionalism is unbeatable. The food is quite good (sure, if you stay for 2 weeks you may find some dishes repetitive) The nice thing is that you can always find something to eat; healthy or not – you choose. The rooms are spacious enough for a couple. Yes, there is a hint of a musty odor in the rooms, but what do you expect in such a rustic and traditional complex sitting right on the beach in full access of ocean humidity. Come on! There are worse things in life! The grounds and vegetation are impeccable. The proximity to Playa del Carmen city center is perfect. You can walk in daily or take a cab. The activities and tour knowledge is great. You could never find yourself bored in this resort. The option of the action pool vs. the relax pool is nice. All in all, Allegro Playacar is a very decent resort for what you pay. Its not 5 star but doesn’t pretend to be either. Suitable for families, couples, old and young. The only negative point is the beach which was destroyed during huricane Katrina – it will take some time for the beach access to be restored to what it once was. But, within 5 minutes walk either left or right you can access nice beaches with easy access." – Paula from Basel, Switzerland
"The hotel was located about 10 minutes from Playa Del Carmen. The staff was absolutely amazing! Jose Luis and Luigi were fantabulous! They were constantly getting people involved with day activities, making sure everyone was having fun. They made good relationships with the people staying there and organized and chaperoned late night activites (local bars, clubs). Luis and Luigi definitely made our trip unforgettable!" – Cole from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
