"We have visited Forty Acres three times during the past year. We have stayed in the “cabins”. Yes they are old and outdated. However, they are clean, and very reasonably priced. This past weekend we stayed with some members in their pop-up. It was a very nice set up especially for those who enjoy camping, cooking out, and staying dry (no tent!). The campsites for tents were small but clean and had a leveled area for your tent. There was a picnic table and water at each site. It is a nice place to hike around and view all the trailers, cabins, houses, and living dwellings of some of its members. The main public bathroom/shower area has just been redone and it is very nice. We visit here to mostly sit poolside and soak up some sun. The pool is nice and clean. Bring your own chair. On busy weekends, chairs go quickly. Every person we have dealt with or met there has been nice. I’m not sure I would want to be here once the swimming season is over with. The pool is heated and stays open until whenever the weather turns, so there is a good chance you will have May thru September to enjoy it. The place is “rustic”. If you can handle rustic, I believe you will enjoy visiting." – Mike from Missouri

"The people there were not welcoming. Not a single person came over to say “Hi” or make us feel welcome. The showers, outdoor showers and bathrooms needed cleaning. It’s nice to take a shower outside but not when you are standing on sticks and acorns. They expect you to be nude from the time you come in the gate. Their rules stated clothing is NOT optional and yet the whole time we had been there, there was only one person we saw nude. Everyone had clothes on and it was sunny and 90 degrees outside. We had stayed in one of the guest cabins and it smelled like a nursing home and looked as if it was decorated in the late 1960s. The walking trail was taken over by weeds so high you could not walk the trail. On the plus side the pool and hot tub area were very nice and clean. I did like that they allowed ATVs as a way to get aroumd the park and I dont think any others allow thwm. Our overall experience was not the greatest. Would not recommend spending the time to travel there if you have to travel more than an hour." – Rick from Nebraska

"The Forty Acre is very dirty and unkept! Grounds are a mess! Seems to be a Mecca for drunks, potheads, and cocaine addicts. A swingers dream! If thats what youre into! The pool is overtaken by their alcoholic volleyball team about 80% of the time. They are drunk and loud and obnoxious! The cabins are filthy and stink! If someone decides they want to talk to you, all you here is gossip, and “did you hear what so and so did?” A community of back stabbers. We would never go there again. Be warned!" – Keith from Illinois

"My wife and I have been fairly frequent visitors to FAC (Forty Acre Club) for the past 10 years. We have visited many other clubs in that time as well but always find FAC to be the most complete package. FAC is a family friendly club and we feel like we are part of the family when we visit. We always stay in one of their rental rooms when we visit (better book early, they are limited in number). While rooms aren’t luxury acommodations they are clean and comfortable and the cost is very reasonable. The heated pool/pavilion area and clubhouse are very nice along with a wonderful clubhouse. There is a wide variety of recreational opportunities from trails in the woods, horse shoes, mini golf and numerous others to provide something for all interests. The grounds are attractive and well maintained making it clear that the members take a lot of pride in their club and they should. Whether your a first timer or a seasoned vet you will find FAC to be a clean, friendly and welcoming place to visit." – John from Illinois

"My husband and I visited FAC several times during 2013 and found it to be a very nice place. We’re considering joining this year. The folks there are very friendly and welcoming. The first day we visited we felt as if we had been friends with these people for a long time. The swimming pool and pool deck are impressive. Whoever is in charge of maintenance does a good job. Our second visit included an overnight stay in one of the rental units. It was not luxury accommodations, but it was clean and comfortable. We were fortunate enough to visit over the July 4th weekend and enjoyed a dinner of BBQ pork steaks that were cooked at their Hawg Pit. They were delicious. Extensive hiking trails through the woods are pleasant and peaceful. We have enjoyed our time there and will definitely be back." – Suzanne from Missouri

"FAC is an AANR co-op campground. The grounds, bathrooms, kitchens, eating areas are worse than disgusting. My husband and I have belonged to this co-op for two years now and no intention of returning. The group of people who have permanent residences there are mostly turning the place into a bad trailor court. Everyone doesn’t have septic systems and yet they live here year round. The feuding and gossiping poolside at the 4pm happy hour has driven visitors away. There are no activities to speak of, but the locals are not open to suggestions. The five rooms for rent have spiders, ants and holes in walls. A renter has to make his own bed with sheets that don’t match and look worse for wear. If one does not take sheets off bed before leaving, they get a $7.00 penalty fee. We are winter TX and just wanted a place close to home to spend the summer, but we have had propane tanks stolen among other smaller things. Others talk about theft and won’t even go to the pool without locking doors. Motel room guests have had food taken out of room while at the pool. The only way to leave a review here is to pick up a card in a room and return it to the office. Tnis is a non profit organization that makes too much from guests to be non profit. October 1st is lease lot renewal time and many of us will not come back. Some will, since they are not retired and live in the area. Thank you for letting me say my peace. We go to Sandpipers Resort in Edinburg, TX for the winters and what a grand place that is. As a long time AANR member in good standing, we will not let one bad place get us away from a life style we love. Thank you for your time." – Kathy from Galena, Illinois
