Zanzibar is an archipelago made up of Zanzibar and Pemba Islands, and several islets. It is located in the Indian Ocean, about 25 miles off the Tanzanian coast and six degrees south of the equator. Zanzibar Island (known locally as Unguja) is only 60 miles long and 25 miles wide, occupying a total area of approximately 650 square miles. It is characterized by beautiful sandy beaches with fringed coral reefs, and the magic of historic Stone Town – said to be the only functioning ancient town in East Africa.
Here at Horton Safaris, we offer our customers a Zanzibar Excursion, which involves city tour, spice tour and diving.
City tour:
Through the city tour our customers are given a chance to see the wonderful island of Zanzibar by exploring its historical sites such as, Zanzibar’s historic stone town, the Jozani forest, old Anglican church and the slave monument, Beit –Al– Ajad, Ruins of Muhurudi Palace, Old Arab Fort (Ngome Kongwe), Kizimkazi Mosque, Mangapwani Slave chambers, Palace Museum, the Livingstone house, and see the endemic Zanzibar’s Red Colobus monkey
Spice tour:
Spices from Zanzibar are famous around the world and a holiday to Zanzibar would be incomplete without a visit to the spice plantations. The sultan of Oman first introduced these kinds of plantations on the island in 1873. You will be overwhelmed by the spices found in Zanzibar like cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon and pepper.
Dive in Zanzibar:
Zanzibar is reputed to have some of the best diving in the world, and the wrecks as well as the coral reef structures that surround Unguja and Pemba ensure that the marine life is abundant. Good visibility (20 - 60 meters) and a year-round average water temperature of 27°c ensure that you enjoy your Zanzibar diving experience, and also present an ideal opportunity for learning to dive or upgrading your diving qualification.
