The Islander on the Beach is one of the better budget style accommodations on Kauai. A recent renovation has made this a really nice value. Remarks:
"Hotel is in a great location. No restaurant available, but within walking distance. No swimming beaches in that direct area. Our main concern was lack of cleanliness. Room was dusty, dirty, and bathroom lacked sanitary conditions. Before we began, we read the reviews and decided that it would be okay due to latest renovations. Renovate does not mean clean and sanitary. Last night there, I had to go to emergency facility because of breathing problems – perhaps air-conditioner was putting out unclean air. Last 2 nights, we slept with door opened. Staff did respond well to requests for things skipped. They did respond to a bug (looked like a small roach), but we felt uncomfortable after that." – Ted and Cathy from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

"The pool water was dirty! The older lady (at the bar) Was not very friendly. When we asked for a recommendation on drinks she handed us the list. Came back a second time and didn’t even get a you’re welcome :( She said that she checks identifications depending on who and where they are from! Not fair! Go across the street to Whalers General Store if you want alcohol. Other than the pool and bar service this place was amazing!"– Pete from Boise, Idaho
