"Went to Cancun for the first time and had a wonderful time. Was treated like a queen and the rooms were nice and clean. The food was excellent. Nice and healthy choices. With all the activities and good food I actually lost weight. Had money for exchange right there at the resort. Would love to go back again to Soloymar. The beach was clean and welcoming. The bar and grill on the beach was great also. Thanks for all the fun."

"Hotel Solymar is not all that! I really looked forward to gaining extra weight from the all-inclusive ammenities such as the food and bar, but I think I ended up losing a few lbs. I was there 6 days, and by Day #2, I was already sick and tired of the stewed beef (plus other same items)that appeared at every meal. I promise you that it seemed as if they recycled the food from one meal/day to the next. We ended up eating Pizza Hut and Dominoes a couple nights because we just couldnt get our fill from the constant mediocre buffet.  The open bar was even worse! They served botton shelf liquor and charged $6.50 for the so-called premium brands (Suaza tequilla, Barcardi rum, etc). However, they did serve Dos XX beer on tap. I ended up purchasing a better brand of vodka and mixers from the local store.  My room overlook the pool/beach area, which was beautiful. The rooms have terraces, but my sliding screen door was broken and off track. Their security system was the traditional key (not swipe card) lock, with no inside locks! There also didn't seem to be a manager on site."

"This hotel is not a 4 star at all. I would give it a 2 at most. There are not 2 restaurants and the description is a lie. There is one restaurant with mediocre food and limited selection. There is one bar and the drinks are small in plastic cups with no pretty garnishes. The towels at the pool are hard to get and they make you get a card that allows you one towel. If you lose the card, they charge you $70. The rooms have no phones and they give you a small remote control tied to a string upon check in. That is weird. We ran out of soap, shampoo, kleenex that was never replenished when the maid came back. The front desk was uncooperative and rude. I left a drink in the lobby and much to my surprise, the drink was still there 2 days later. They do not care about the hotels appearance which is dissapointing to someone vacationing. I made sure I was taking tours everyday so I would not have to be there." -  Amiee from Chicago,. Illinois

"WE WILL NEVER STAY AT THE SOLYMAR AGAIN. THE STAFF WAS NOT VERY ACCOMADATING. THE ROOMS WE HAD WERE BY FAR NOT THE CLEANEST. OUR FRIENDS HAD MAINTAINENCE PROBLEMS AND WERE ASSURED SOMEONE WOULD BE BY TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM; THEY NEVER CAME! CIG BUTTS and SMALL PIECES OF PLASTIC WERE IN THE POOL. HOUSEKEEPING THREW AWAY THE BOTTLES OF WATER AND OUR CHILDRENS SEA SHELLS. THE PHONES DID NOT WORK PROPERLY AND HAD NO INSTRUCTIONS ON THEM. NO HOT WATER. POOR COMMUNICATIONS BECAUSE MOST OF THE STAFF SPOKE MIN ENGLISH. THE DRINKS, OTHER THAN COKE, ECT. WERE HORRIBLE. WE WOULD HAVE TO RATE THIS HOTEL AS THE WORST WE EVER STAYED IN. ON THE UP SIDE, AT THE ONE RESTURANT THE FOOD WAS GOOD AND THE RESTURANT STAFF WAS VERY FRIENDLY." -  Jay and Vickie from  Lebanon, Virginia

"My wife and I have stayed at the Solymar for about five years now. One half of the complex is privately owned. They are condos. The other half is what they rent out as hotel suites. Yes, there is only one restaurant, yes, there are only two bars. If you are looking for a beach front party hotel with a DJ and loud music and young kids doing shots of tequila, this is not the hotel for you!! The hotel is literally on the beach. You walk out of your room and you are about ten yards from the ocean. The view is spectacular! The food is wonderful. The wait staff are very friendly. When you arrive, tip the bartender well and you will have a friend for the entire trip! You have access to all of the same things that all of the other hotels have such as wave runners, parasailing, fishing, etc.. I highly recommend the Solymar if you are looking for a really low key laid back resort, this is the place for you! We have always had a great time and highly recommend them!! We love the Solymar!! "My family enjoyed the whole week we stayed at the Solymar.  Much to our surprise, this hotel exceeded our expectations due partly to the bad reviews we read about online before we left.  When we arrived we settled in and before the day was over, we were in love.  As each passing day ended we started planning our next trip to Solymar.  This hotel was calm and relaxed.  We didnt have to worry about dress codes, or offending anyone with the casual beachside feeling.  The food was terrific and we soon knew "favorite" dishes.  And I surely dont want to forget to mention Julio, the poolside bartender.  He made the best non alcoholic refreshments that my wife could dream of.  Julio was full of life,  stories, and so personable that we tipped him more than we would and ever had anyone,  anywhere!  It saddens me to think we may not be able to revisit Julio and the Solymar this year.  We have been having trouble finding info on it online lately.  If anyone has a family...Children or adults,  or retired time to take in Mexico...Me and my family ask that you please give Solymar a try...But only if you want to relax!!!!  Isnt that what a vacation is for?"

"I just got back last night and im very unhappy with my stay in Cancun Mexico. This is my 4th time in Mexico and i dont want to go back after this experience. First the hotel was suppose to be a 4 star and i wouldnt even rate it a 2 star. They have false advertising on their website. They state they have more than one bar and restaurant. They dont! The food was aweful! Our room didnt have an alarm clock of a telephone. We would ask for wake up calls and no one came and knocked on our door. I understand the hurricane affected this hotel and they have to work on it. But i was on vacation and i got woke up every morning at 7:15 am to someone pounding on the ceiling of my room. Why would you put us in a room with people working above us. I talked to the people up front and nothing was done. Then i talked to the manager and he was a jerk to me as well! No bell boy helped us when we were leaving. It seemed like no one wanted to help us and im very unhappy. I couldnt wait to get home. I paid too much money for this discusting hotel! There were bugs in our room and the maid didnt even change our sheets. We had to ask for more towels everyday i had 3 people in my room and theyd leave one towel and question me when id ask for more. I hope no one goes through what i went through and i will do what i can to let everyone know to not stay there! " - Gloria Vanessa, from Virginia

"I have stayed at the Solymar on three different occasions. Each time it was necessary for me to change from the room originally assigned, to one which was more acceptable. Fortunately the staff was considerate of the problem(s) i identified with the room(s). Once the room was too damp and i had an allergic reaction to the presence of mold and mildew, another time the a/c and refridgerator hummed so loud i could not sleep, and on another occasion the room was too hot and the a/c not working. As i said the staff was accomodating and each time the room switch was a big improvement. Once they even put me into a Jr. Suite.

I recommend the Solymar to everyone i know considering a trip to Cancun on a budget. The resturant was a jewel of a find. the food is good and the staff accomodating. The beach is uncrowded, the bus runs frequently up and down the boulevard so you are able to get to and from the main tourist area with no problem. I LOVE CANCUN!!!
