The food is great and the place is so clean you can eat off the floor. The location is convenient and easy to travel to and from. The shopping area at the marina is beautiful with a lot of great restaurants. Am I excited about this place? Yes. It is the perfect get-away location." - John &am; Mary Beth from Escanaba, Michigan

"First problem is that there is no signage from the main road where to turn in for the Rui. There are no street signs, as there are no street names. We had rented a car and drove around 3 times before be took a chance and entered a service road that had signage that said HOTEL. Not Rui Hotel, just Hotel. All the other main Hotels in Cabo have entry signage. We had to ask for a different room as the first room we were assigned was next to the main buffet area and on the first floor. We had booked ocean-view for 3 people. The second room was better view wise, but the beds were hard, the refridg. didn't work. the beds were two double beds pushed together for three people. They also only gave us towels for two, so we always had to find a maid somewhere and ask for more. The pool area was quite a way from our room but they played very loud music all day that carried to our room. They played Bingo on the the sound system in the afternoon at the pool, sooo loud you couldn't take a nap in your room with the slider closed. The heater at night didn't work even when making sure that the sliding glass door upper pin was connected, so we asked for extra blankets every night! The food wasnt great. I got sick at the Japanese place there, wierd idea of putting cream cheese in the sushi as well as serving some beef dish that was really fajitias. I had the runs after eating there. There was plenty of booze but terrible mixes. Lots of people getting drunk...Not my style. Beach sand was very rough and the berm so high you couldn't see the waves. Rough waves...no nice beach walks here. I wouldn't go back to the Rui Palace, but I would look into some other resort as Cabo is so lovely." - Kitty from Los Angeles, California

We are always very careful to not drink water and so on but this time it was something else. The beds are hard, the wine is awful. I have stayed at just about every Riu and this one had a lot of things that were not what I am used to. There is only four floors and very noisy....Not good. I suppose just an older place.

The one next door, The Santa Fe, I think is not too good either our friends stayed there. No room service or help with baggage. If you can't walk a lot don't stay there it s like a college camp site.

I guess I was spoiled with the other Riu Palace Resorts." - Cathy from Anapolis, Maryland

Rooms smell awful and have bedbugs!!!! Food and alcohol is mediocre at best although breakfast is really good. Would not recommend this hotel although pool and hotel are beautiful and the hotel itself is very clean. Staff is mostly great except for front desk. They are very condescending and deceptive about rooms which I assume is because most rooms are simply unnaceptable. "Overall the Riu was a lovely hotel and the staff was very friendly. I don't think I would ever travel here again as we experienced several problems. To start, one of our party had their blackberry stolen from their room. They were using the phone for the time as the clock radio didn't work. The hotel staff searched the room and did the card reader search to see who had been in the room but ultimately did nothing and claimed that our only recourse was to file a police report which I'm sure they know that the average tourist will not do. So, obviously the phone was a write off. Another problem we had was with diarrhea. Several people in our group experienced diarrhea, not sure if it was from the water or from the food, but I would recommend taking Ducoral before traveling to this area. Another reason we did not like the resort was the beach. The water was red flagged every day as it was too rough to even wade into the water. The sand at this location is also very rough on the feet so not really enjoyable to walk the beach as we like to do. Lastly, we felt the entertainment was poor for a resort of this size. Although the entertainment staff was great, their resources seem limited."

"My husband and I went on vacation to Cabo, Mexico. We stayed at the Riu Palace. The hotel was beautiful and well kept, staff was prompt with their services. The room we stayed in had two beds pushed together to make a king size bed which we thought was strange. The room was muggy and smelled bad at times. It came with a safe where we could keep our important documents and money. However, the safe was not a digital safe where you can punch in a random numerical code; it had a key with a rope attached, meaning we had to take the key with us everywhere we went. This was an annoyance considering we did a lot of activities outside the hotel and could easily lose it, so we decided that we would hide the key in our room in a safe place. All was well until the last day of our stay at the Riu Palace. – On the last day of our vacation, at around 2:30pm, my husband and I decided to take a walk on the beach, get a henna tattoo retouched and lay out for a bit. Before we left, we counted our money to see how much we had left (we had $1,400 US dollars) and put it back in the safe and hid the key in a pocket of a dress in the closet. We had promised our henna tattoo guy that we would get him a bottle of water because it was a really hot day. We came back to the room around 3:20pm, laid around for about 20 minutes before we left again to give him a bottled water. We came back to the room at about 5pm, and went out to dinner at 6pm. We had spare time after dinner before the nightly entertainment started and decided to check out the Riu Santa Fe next door. We went back to our room at 8pm to grab some money and that's when we realized our money was gone! We called hotel security and they came to our room with a machine that checks our door slot as to who came into our room while we were away. They found that at 351pm, a hotel employee, named Roberto came into our room to restock the bar/refrigerator. Other than that, nobody else entered our room between 2pm and 8pm. This guy went through our personal belongings, found the key and stole all of our money. We went down to the Director of the hotel's office named Yvonne and told her our situation. She could care less! She did absolutely NOTHING to help us in any way. She said that it was our fault that we should have taken the key with us everywhere we went. She said that the hotel policy does not cover stolen property unless there was damage at entry. She also said that there was no proof that Roberto stole the money and that she doesn't think that he would steal because all employees know that there is a log kept as to what rooms they enter by the key they use. She told us that the only way to do anything about this was to make a statement to the police. We asked if she could call the police to come to the hotel and were told that unless there is violence, they will not bother to come. So the assistant director of the hotel, Jose and another employee drove us to the police station through back roads with no lighting at 9pm at night. While we were there, another cop came walking in with an AK-47 machine gun! We thought we were going to die. Luckily, we made it out alive and came back to the hotel. We had no choice but to leave without anything being done about it or ever getting our money back. Because the hotel is not taking any action about this matter, it basically encourages their employees to steal from paying and trusting guests at their hotel. They said that there was no proof, then why did security tell us the exact employee down to his name, that came in our room at 351pm? The money did not grow legs and walk away. There IS proof of exactly who took the money! If the hotel had handled the situation better, maybe it wouldn't have been that bad, but they are a billion dollar chain and they handled this matter like shady business people. I will never recommend this hotel or any other Riu hotel to anybody."

The "mini bar" is awesome, the bartenders are fun and helpful. The shows are fantastic (and I was not really interested at first, they made me laugh and I loved them once I gave them a chance). "Their website advertises their 4 restaurants; however you will never be able to get a reservation for dinner. They won't let you make a dinner reservation prior to checking in. When you check-in and try to book reservations for dinner they tell you that they are booked up for every night of your stay, so your only option is the bad food at their buffet. The buffet food is terrible. Fast food restaurants have better food than their buffet, which is sad. When you walk by their 4 restaurants at dinner time they're practically empty, about 70% of the tables are vacant. I'm guessing they don't want people eating the good food at their restaurants because it costs them more money, so you're stuck with the nasty buffet. The 24-hour room service is a joke. They have a very small number of items to choose from on their menu. If you call room service after the buffet is closed the line rings busy and it takes about 30 minutes to get thru. Once you are finally able to get thru it takes another 45 minutes to get your food only to find that it's cold and soggy. I paid for an all-inclusive hotel and ended up spending money to eat outside of the hotel the majority of the time since the buffet food was so awful. You get all the booze that you want, but they only have 2 beers to choose from, Dos Equis or Tecate Light. Good luck trying to get a Corona or any good beer. Same goes for their wine and other liquor, only a couple of cheap brands to chose from. I don't expect expensive alcohol, but a couple of other items would be nice especially better beer or wine since that's not too expensive. The air-conditioning system is not like one I've ever seen. Your balcony door has to be pin-locked shut in order for the air to turn on (not just closed the normal way). When I called the front desk to tell them that my AC wasn't working, they told me they would send someone right up rather than just telling me what the problem was (other people staying at the hotel had the same problem). Almost an hour later when nobody came to my room I went to the front desk to ask them about it. I asked them if I could switch rooms if they weren't able to fix it and they told me "no, you have to keep the same room" (keep in mind it was in the 90's and very hot). When I checked in I was told that they were under 80% occupied so I know they had plenty of vacant rooms. The maintenance guy finally came to show me what the problem was. I told the front desk they should tell people that when they call rather than making them wait for maintenance. Their response was "you should know that." How am I supposed to know the AC won't work without pin-locking the door? All that I have mentioned so far was my experience just from my first night at this hotel. The front desk staff has terrible customer service and is flat out rude. If you are disappointed about something they never once will say "I'm sorry" or offer you any type of apology. I was even told to "shush" and to go away. I had a late flight on my last day and asked for an extra hour in the room. They offered to give me an extra hour in my room for $50.00 even after I told them that I knew they were less than 80% occupied and didn't need my room that night. They didn't want to hear me begging for a late check out anymore so they had one of the rental car people from a booth in the lobby tell me to go away. I never asked for a refund of any kind. I only asked for a dinner reservation at one of the restaurants and an extra hour in the room and got nothing out of them except attitude. The pool is nice, the hotel is pretty, and that's about it. I have stayed in other hotels in Mexico and they were always very accommodating with excellent customer service and good food. If you run into a problem during your stay, they won't care. Not worth your hard earned money. No sense in taking time off of work to go on vacation to be treated that way. I work in the hospitality industry and if I treated my clients the same way their front desk staff treated me, I would be fired." - L.C. from Los Angeles, California

"Simply put a Nightmare of a vacation. 1. Check-in was complete chaos. Sent away because the staff could not locate my reservation after standing in line for 30 minutes. Returned after 45 minutes, stood in line again for another 30 minutes and another round of chaos. Finally they assigned me a room. The hotel map was terrible and I wandered around until I found my room. Most of the staff speaks Spanish with little English here and there. 2. My room absolutely smelled horrible. Despite the heat, I had to open the sliding door to air out the room. 3. After my long day of "check-in" I laid down to take a short nap only to be startled awake by a maid walking into my room! I was traveling alone and this certainly frightened me. 4. The free drinks are watered down; on a good note when the pool side waiter spilled his entire tray all over me and my belongings at least there was not alot of alchohol all over me and my new purchases (bag and hat). No fresh towel to clean up, I had to leave the pool to go back to my room to clean up and wash my belongings 5. I attempted to order room service since the buffet dinner was aweful and when I dialed for room service I was greeted by a smart talking man, joking around that I only wanted the turkey sandwich and that he would be around to my room in 3 hours. 6. I complained to management with out results. 7. After a morning out for snorkeling I came back to my room to find a maintenence man in my bathroom putting caulking around the tub. The room smelled of chemicals. He did not speak a word of English and certainly the tub did not need new caulking. I found him going from room to room doing the same job. The open air hallways smelled terrible. 8. Called for room service again the next night, I ate my sandwich first and when I went to eat the Nachos the cheese was solid. No heat at all. I took the plate to the same manager who did nothing at all. I called Expedia who offered no help and also spoke to the day manager to see if they would do anything to compensate me for all of the trouble. All I receieved was the run around. I left 2 days earily to get out of that hell hole. And just a tip: taxi service is $80 Dollars one way. The hotel stated that was standard but that the return trip to the airport was $45. When I left I arranged the taxi via the hotel and upon arrive at the airport the driver demanded $60." - Yvette from Lynnwood, Washington

"Outstanding View from Our Room"
Peter and Nancy from Lincoln, Nebraska
Remarks:
"For an all inclusive this is a great resort. The food was fantastic, the service the best we have experienced and the overall environment was above expectations. The many restaurants on site were the most outstanding we have sampled at any all inclusive and some of the best we have experienced at any resort. Our only disappointment was the rendition of Japanese dining. The service was of course outstanding, but the food lacked that Japanese character. The remaining restaurants left nothing to be desired. The pools were super. One quiet and one not so quiet. But they were designed that way so that if you wanted to rock all day to music you could. Also, the partiers seemed to stay on that wing of the hotel also, which was nice. I know free alcohol is an attraction, and yes, we certainly took advantage of the offering. But many went way beyond what "normal" consumption should be and it reflected in their behavior. I just wish people would realize that they were in someone else's house and that they were representing their home country while in Mexico. The cleanliness of the facility was over the edge. We always saw the staff cleaning, polishing and keeping things in order. The wait staff went out of their way to see to our every need. After the second day, most addressed us by our names, which was refreshing. Our only complaint was noise. After the first night I went asked for the manager and explained that if the second night was as noisy as the first, we would be checking out that day. I was respectful but firm. After quizzing me a bit, he assured me that he would take care of it and he did. We might hear a little noise once in awhile, but it seemed to stop immediately. We almost felt that a security officer was placed in our hall to keep it quiet, but I am sure that was not the case. Would we stay at a Riu Place again? Absolutely! Just remember the Palaces of Riu are a step above the other RIU facilities." - Peter and Nancy from Lincoln, Nebraska

"We spent a very enjoyable 5 nights at this hotel. We had to change our room to be closer to the lobby because of medical issues. To be truthful it is a long walk from the outside wings of the hotel to the lobby and the restaurants. We ate at 3 restaurants. The Krystal Fusion, Misaki Japanese and the Steakhouse. Krystal and Misaki were wonderful, the Steakhouse wasn't. It was more like Dennys. I had the ribeye. The wait-staff was great. Breakfast outside (IRIS) our waitress was the best. As was the food everything you could want. Buffet inside (FELIX) our waiter was so energetic and helpful. Food was also very good. The only BIG NEGATIVE for this Resort was that you can't swim off the beach in front of the hotel, but the pools are very nice with a quiet pool and a more active pool. So take the water taxi to the swim beach. Thank You." - Francis and Donna from Rockville, Maryland

"We had a horrific week at the RIU Palace Cabo. My husband got food poisoning eating at the lunch buffet. He was extremely ill for 4 of our 6 days vacation. He visited a doctor several times, and was prescribed antibiotics plus other medication. When I reported this to the hotel they were most disinterested. I spoke to a couple of other people who were also ill. Walking past the lunch buffet later in the week (I never ate there again) I saw them putting out food at 10:00am for a buffet that opens at noon. When my husband finally recovered (and was able to eat) on the next to last day of our vacation, I got up at 7:00am so I could make a reservation in their fine dining restaurant (cannot make them in advance). Our reservation was at 9:15pm!! There are only two seatings, 6:00pm or 9:15pm. We waited outside the restaurant for 15 minutes until they would let us in. Then, one hour later while we were still eating our dessert and drinking our wine, the waiter asked us to leave as they were closing. Our room was very musty, the furnishings stained and the TV did not work. You cannot swim in the water because of a bad under-current. We had a small amount of money stolen from our room but were careful to put everything valuable in the safe. I spoke to two other people who had theft from their rooms, one quite a significant amount. All in all, this was our worst vacation ever." - Dorothy from Toronto, Canada

"My stay at the All Inclusive RIU Hotel Palace in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, was nothing short of being a complete and udder waste of my time and money. I'm not even sure where to start, when we got there, check in was chaotic, there was no one there to help you, no one there to get your bags, give you your keys, when you asked someone for their help, they would politely turn you down or they don't want to understand or speak English, but still expect a tip (asking for it in English!!!). When we finally made it up to our suite, there was a Cockroach and the room stunk of raw sewage and fungi smell, we complained, but of course, nothing was done. 24-hour food service? They don't serve past 10:30 pm, and they don't start serving until next day at 7 am. The food was comparable to cheap frozen dinners, (tasteless and awful) all 6 adult people and 3 kids in my party suffered from food poisoning of what we ate at their buffet; seems to me like leaving food out in 85 degree weather for 6 hours and longer is a certain recipe for bacteria and disaster, and also flies were all over the food and dinning area which didn't help the situation. They made us to stay everyday in line sometimes for as long as two hours to make a reservation for the dinner restaurants, which most of the time when you get to the front of the line all restaurants have already been booked and left you with no other alternatives than eating in the buffet again and again and again. We stayed there for 5 days and 4 nights, and not one day, were our sheets changed by the maids, I don't believe they even entered our rooms, same bed sheet and towels for 5 days!!! is unacceptable, if you wanted to file a complaint, you would be greeted by the front desk staff who would give you their smiles but truthfully not care about what problems you have, of course if you were lucky enough to find someone in charge. You were never alone at the front desk though, oh no, never alone down there, I was constantly surrounded by other couples who were making complaints as well. Reviews of the resort on the Internet are proofs to that., I wished I read them before booking this horrible Vacation." - Vahid from Ogden, Utah / (Review edited for size constraint)

"We were given a room with a view of the construction side of the hotel. asked to relocated and they gave the ol "were overbooked" speech and to come back tomorrow. well... they kept that speech going until our last day and then it wasnt even worth changing rooms for a day. thats is until we saw our room was filled with mosquitos and bed bugs. we changed rooms at 5am and they gave us another construction view room! construction workers start at 7am and end at 9pm. smelled the sewer maybe 3 times a day. also there is alot of stairs in this hotel! if you are older or have bad knees/back in might start to take its toll. there are elevators, but they are kinda far. i would compare the food to a bad Sizzler buffet. dinner is good, but you need to make res. 2 days in advance so your first 2 days your eating "sizzler". make sure to bring pants. you cant eat dinner without them. even if its 100 degrees aside from all that, the pools are very nice but not worth the hassle for the rooms and food. with the construction, the Riu is expanding and all the new rooms have no ocean view." - Travis from San Jose, California

"My husband and I stayed at the RUI PALACE for a week in feb. and it was amazing. I read a lot of reviews before we left, so I am happy to add my review here. The rooms were beautiful. Our balcony had a beautiful view of the ocean, and the rooms are nice and big. The bed was very comfortable. This resort is beautiful! The design, layout and decore is amazing. The view from every angle of this place is picture worthly. Actually we took over 300 pictures during our stay. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The best advise that I can give is to say that a one dollar tip goes a long way. I know that it is all expenses paid, but spending $20 in tips for the week is certainly a good investment. Besides, the staff worked very hard, long hours and they deserve it. There are many different items for sale on the beach and I definatly recommend going into Cabo to see the shops and flea markets. Remember to barter! Expecially on the beach. When they tell you their price, drop down to half then work your way up. They need to provide for their families too.... The food was wonderful, we really enjoyed the breakfast each morning. Definatly much better to go to the buffet than room service. They have everything that you could ever want! We also really enjoyed the steak house too. We also took a water taxi over to lovers beach and had them drop us off for two hours and just enjoyed our time there. The rocks are amazing and for $10 to go over it was certainly worth it! We loved this resort, and given the oppertunity we will certainly go back again!" - Brenda from Kingston, Ontario, Canada

"The RUI is just spectacular, awesome, fantastic...we could not say anything bad about it except it took a little time to get into our room the first day...nothng they did, but we arrived early...we were able to get whatever refreshment and food we needed then (sent us down to get a "snack", but it was a huge array of wonderful buffet food!), and we had to mind our luggage...but having said that, maybe someone may have minded it for us, who knows, you must ask! The whole week was wonderful, the place is super clean, the food just marvelous, the service exemplatory, and the staff helpful to a fault...would not HESITATE to recommend this resort to anyone, anytime, with children or not...we were there for a wedding and that could not have been better." - Christine from Hamilton, Ontario
