"We had a horrific week at the RIU Palace Cabo. My husband got food poisoning eating at the lunch buffet. He was extremely ill for 4 of our 6 days vacation. He visited a doctor several times, and was prescribed antibiotics plus other medication. When I reported this to the hotel they were most disinterested. I spoke to a couple of other people who were also ill. Walking past the lunch buffet later in the week (I never ate there again) I saw them putting out food at 10:00am for a buffet that opens at noon. When my husband finally recovered (and was able to eat) on the next to last day of our vacation, I got up at 7:00am so I could make a reservation in their fine dining restaurant (cannot make them in advance). Our reservation was at 9:15pm!! There are only two seatings, 6:00pm or 9:15pm. We waited outside the restaurant for 15 minutes until they would let us in. Then, one hour later while we were still eating our dessert and drinking our wine, the waiter asked us to leave as they were closing. Our room was very musty, the furnishings stained and the TV did not work. You cannot swim in the water because of a bad under-current. We had a small amount of money stolen from our room but were careful to put everything valuable in the safe. I spoke to two other people who had theft from their rooms, one quite a significant amount. All in all, this was our worst vacation ever." - Dorothy from Toronto, Canada

"Arrived at the resort at around 5:30 PM and checked in. I am alergic to mold and the room had a strong moldy smell. Within 15 minutes I had a headache and eyes were starting to water. It took 5 hours for them to finally relocate me in a room at the RIU Santa Fe which they also own. Pool close to the hotel was NOT heated and swim-up bar was not open! Beach at this location was like small gravel - very hard to walk on. There was no refund forthcoming for having to take a smaller room instead of the junior suite I paid extra for. I will not return!" - Lorne from Victoria, British Columbia, Canada

"My wife and I paid $695/night for a room at the Riu Palace Cabo San Lucas between Xmas and New Years 2007. One day after returning to our room at 4:30 PM we found it had not been cleaned. We made 4 additional calls over the next 6 hours and simply never could get anyone to attend and clean our room. Our further letters of concern on our return home have also been met with indifference and unsatisfactory customer service. Outrageous prices and very poor service." - Jeff from Calgary, Alberta, Canada

"The Riu Palace was one of the best hotels ive ever stayed at. The people were so nice and worked very hard day and night. The food was good, especially the Japanese restaurant. The view from our room was awesome and the pool area is so nice and very well kept. The nightly entertainment was very enjoyable too. To the people who have left negative reviews, you have to understand you're in another country and not everything is going to be perfect, loosen up and have a good time! I recommend this vacation spot to everyone. My boyfriend and I are looking forward to vactioning at another destination, but staying at one of the Riu Palace Resorts again!!" - Sabrina from North Providence, Rhode Island

"My stay at the All Inclusive RIU Hotel Palace in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, was nothing short of being a complete and udder waste of my time and money. I'm not even sure where to start, when we got there, check in was chaotic, there was no one there to help you, no one there to get your bags, give you your keys, when you asked someone for their help, they would politely turn you down or they don't want to understand or speak English, but still expect a tip (asking for it in English!!!). When we finally made it up to our suite, there was a Cockroach and the room stunk of raw sewage and fungi smell, we complained, but of course, nothing was done. 24-hour food service? They don't serve past 10:30 pm, and they don't start serving until next day at 7 am. The food was comparable to cheap frozen dinners, (tasteless and awful) all 6 adult people and 3 kids in my party suffered from food poisoning of what we ate at their buffet; seems to me like leaving food out in 85 degree weather for 6 hours and longer is a certain recipe for bacteria and disaster, and also flies were all over the food and dinning area which didn't help the situation. They made us to stay everyday in line sometimes for as long as two hours to make a reservation for the dinner restaurants, which most of the time when you get to the front of the line all restaurants have already been booked and left you with no other alternatives than eating in the buffet again and again and again. We stayed there for 5 days and 4 nights, and not one day, were our sheets changed by the maids, I don't believe they even entered our rooms, same bed sheet and towels for 5 days!!! is unacceptable, if you wanted to file a complaint, you would be greeted by the front desk staff who would give you their smiles but truthfully not care about what problems you have, of course if you were lucky enough to find someone in charge. You were never alone at the front desk though, oh no, never alone down there, I was constantly surrounded by other couples who were making complaints as well. Reviews of the resort on the Internet are proofs to that., I wished I read them before booking this horrible Vacation." - Vahid from Ogden, Utah / (Review edited for size constraint)

"We were given a room with a view of the construction side of the hotel. asked to relocated and they gave the ol "were overbooked" speech and to come back tomorrow. well... they kept that speech going until our last day and then it wasnt even worth changing rooms for a day. thats is until we saw our room was filled with mosquitos and bed bugs. we changed rooms at 5am and they gave us another construction view room! construction workers start at 7am and end at 9pm. smelled the sewer maybe 3 times a day. also there is alot of stairs in this hotel! if you are older or have bad knees/back in might start to take its toll. there are elevators, but they are kinda far. i would compare the food to a bad Sizzler buffet. dinner is good, but you need to make res. 2 days in advance so your first 2 days your eating "sizzler". make sure to bring pants. you cant eat dinner without them. even if its 100 degrees aside from all that, the pools are very nice but not worth the hassle for the rooms and food. with the construction, the Riu is expanding and all the new rooms have no ocean view." - Travis from San Jose, California

"My husband and I stayed at the RUI PALACE for a week in feb. and it was amazing. I read a lot of reviews before we left, so I am happy to add my review here. The rooms were beautiful. Our balcony had a beautiful view of the ocean, and the rooms are nice and big. The bed was very comfortable. This resort is beautiful! The design, layout and decore is amazing. The view from every angle of this place is picture worthly. Actually we took over 300 pictures during our stay. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The best advise that I can give is to say that a one dollar tip goes a long way. I know that it is all expenses paid, but spending $20 in tips for the week is certainly a good investment. Besides, the staff worked very hard, long hours and they deserve it. There are many different items for sale on the beach and I definatly recommend going into Cabo to see the shops and flea markets. Remember to barter! Expecially on the beach. When they tell you their price, drop down to half then work your way up. They need to provide for their families too.... The food was wonderful, we really enjoyed the breakfast each morning. Definatly much better to go to the buffet than room service. They have everything that you could ever want! We also really enjoyed the steak house too. We also took a water taxi over to lovers beach and had them drop us off for two hours and just enjoyed our time there. The rocks are amazing and for $10 to go over it was certainly worth it! We loved this resort, and given the oppertunity we will certainly go back again!" - Brenda from Kingston, Ontario, Canada
