"Taken from our balcony. Very lush."
Kathy from Oakdale, Minnesota

Remarks:
"This is a wonderful resort. The beach is beautiful and rock free, the rooms are clean and the beds are comfortable, the shower in the room is excellent. The ocean view junior suites have a wonderful spacious balcony with a glass railing so you can look at the ocean while seated. The food is excellent. I had a 50 minute hot stone massage at the spa, it was wonderful. Remember to bring ones and fives to tip the staff and shuttle service workers. They are friendly and helpful. The resort lobby is loud and active and the noise will echo up into the room, we put a towel at the bottom of our door, but it only helped a little. We were so tired we just tried to ignore the noise. We were there at spring-break time. We have stayed at two other resorts in Mexico in the past three years, this is the best one so far. I would go back here for sure." - Kathy from Oakdale, Minnesota

"Riu Caribe is not a 5-star Hotel. No AC in the lobby, the food was really bad. Never eat in Maria Margarita Restaurant is so bad food. In our room the AC not working, the iron not working and the hair dryer not working. We will nevergo back to this hotel, too bad. The only good was the beach. The Riu Cancun is better." - Rosa from Houston, Texas

"From our balcony. Absolutely Beautiful."
Greg from Goshen, Indiana

Remarks:
"We have stayed at the Riu Caribe for several years and love it. We already have our trip set for December 2010. The employees are what really makes this resort stand above the rest. Gonzalo, Tommy, Vincent, Robert, Eduardo are just a few who always give wonderful service and treat you like friends. The food is good, plenty of variety. The rooms are great (we get a junior suite) and we love Cancun. Magaritaville and Coco Bongo are always on our agenda. The pool is beautiful, but gets too loud during the day. (OK - Im old) I would suggest to anyone heading to Cancun - use Paradise Transfers for travel from and to the airport. They provide great service." - Greg from Goshen, Indiana

"View From our hotel balcony."
Murray & Judy - Calgary, Alberta, Canada

Remarks:
"We arrived late in the afternoon, the bellhop unloaded our luggage before we could even get out of the van. While standing at the check-in counter, the lobby waitress brought us non-alcholic fruit beverages. I have never been served while checking in before - anywhere else. I really appreciated that. The room was great, all rooms have view of the ocean. Friendly desk staff. Food was great in the main dining area. Only went to the steak restaurant once, then made the mistake of ordering medium rare... it was still breathing. Should have put a saddle on it and rode it back to the room. Lots to do around the resort. The pizza bar has the best pizza in Mexico. One draw back, and I spoke with several visitors who agreed. The best bar on the property was the lobby bar. The best bartender was Francesco.. if you go, tip him well and he will make you the best drinks. The swim up bar and the the bartenders that work the terrace are adequate for most drinks but only Francesco was able to successfully make a la mumba. Most didnt even know what it was. They make awesome caesars at this resort... rare if you travel much to the states, Amercians dont know how to make one if you can even find one. The drawback is that you go to Cancun for the sun, but to get a descent mixed beverage, you have to sit in the lobby.

The lobby is wide open to the wind and sun, but thats not the same as sitting around the pool. Bring your appetite. Food is prepared all day long. There is a buffet on the terrace, as well, a pool side nibbly spread is made daily. The dinning room has a lot of food and plenty of seating and is very well staffed, and they are all very professional. We stayed 8 days, didnt have a bad meal at any of the sittings. There is no beach bar service... you have to go get your own and take it down to the beach, where the sand is warm, there are plenty of lounge chairs and umbrellas to stay out of the direct sun if you are prone to burning. The beach is clean with a well marked swimming area. The water is the most incredible tourquois blue. There are several entrances from the hotel pool deck down to the ocean. If you want to go to the specialty restaurants you have to be in line before 6:45 am to book for that night, as they are booked solid for the day by 7:30 am. Some days they were booked by 7:10 am. All the tour operators have a desk in the lobby, and their itineraries are in a bookcase for easy access, so you can check on departure times, excursions etc. Most of the operators have an employee stop in once or twice per week to be available to ask questions and sell you trips to chichen itza, by the way, worth going. Dont take the personal van trip... go with a big bus tour... your big bus driver might get lost (met some folks that happened too), but the comfort of those big buses is worth it... we took the 15 passenger van trip with 12 other strangers. It was cramped, but at least we made good time. The day entertainment staff also comes back at night to perform the live show in the amphetheatre. The shows are free and are fun. After that, they take anyone who wants to go into town to one of the major bars... if you are into that scene, it is great, however, we heard the bars are PACKED... wall to wall people. My wife and I are not into the bar scene so cant speak first hand. However, the hotel has live music in the lobby until 11 pm or a little past, and the lobby bar is open quite late if you want to sit and socialize. The lobby seating is very comfortable. They have couches and chairs, and tables and lamps to read by. They also have nightly shop displays in the lobby to take your tourist dollars away from you. The hotel has a fully stocked variety store, plus a drug store/emergency supply store on the front of the hotel for all your toiletries you may have forgotten, or an emergency band-aide or two. The rooms are very neat and tidy, however, the tubs are dangerous. My wife fell out of the tub and could have been severely injured, but was only lucky that she didnt smash her head on the marble floor. The tub wall is very tall and they supply a wooden foot stool to help you get in and out. Very necessary. Without it, you would likely slip and fall, even with it, stepping off the stool onto the floor after a hot shower with the airconditioning running is a dangerous situation where condensation settles on the cool floor.

The tv works, but you only get basic cable, and it is all spanish. Some english language programs were available, but I missed satelite tv from the states. We had to check out at 11 AM or noon, but we were not being picked up until 5:45 pm for a 9 PM flight. The desk staff had no problem leaving us with our all-inclusive braclets to partake of anything available for the entire day. Our luggage was put at the front door and guarded by a security guard, along with everyone else that was checking out that day. We kept our passports and valuables with us, but the rest of the stuff was quite safe. I would go back to this resort in a second. In fact, I would go to any RIU hotel since I had such a great experience at this one." - Murray & Judy from Calgary, Alberta, Canada

"This place was amazing. Our first trip to Cancun and we had a great time. This place was great for me because I am a picky eater and they had a wide variety of food. The animation team (entertainment) was great I am still catching myself saying 1-2-3 tequila sometimes. Anyway, if you go up to the swim up bar tell Jose we said hi!!! The staff was awesome and very courteous. The steakhouse outside by the beach was wonderful very romantic. The rooms were very nice and the only thing I have bad to say about this resort is when you go up the elevator to go to your room (after walking all day and being in the heat) you have to walk down a long hallway but you know that is just me whining nothing bad about the resort at all. My husband and I will always definitely go back to this one always!!!!!! Make sure if you want to get a good spot on the beach or next to the pool you get up very, very early. And I really stressed taking the Pirates of the Caribbean tour in the pirate ships that was awesome!!" - Misty from Bridgeport, Texas
