"This hotel has smelly pillows and tired rooms. The beach is small, rocky and lots of broken glass on it. The pools were not very clean except on 2 days. The food and servers were fantastic and we had a ball because we were a wedding group of 38 people. The bar tenders were fantastic as well but the hotel was not a 4 or 5 star hotel. The charge for this hotel was that of a five star and they promote a 5-star but this hotel was not a 5-star hotel. We paid almost $1600.00 in July for a hotel that should be a 3-star dressed up as a 5. Very dirty pools. Rooms and pillows smell, and are mediocre at best. I would not recommend this hotel even though we had a blast. We were a group of 38 people celebrating a wedding so we made th most of it. If the bride and groom had not suggested and selcted this place I would have left it. I think clean pools and pillows should be mandatory regardless of the star rating." - Deborah from Guelph, Ontario

"The dining staff, pool staff, entertainment staff was wonderful. The food was fantastic. The front desk staff was not friendly at all and very helpful when you need to speak to them about your room. As far as the room, they were very damp, moldy, and very cold. The pillows we had were hard as rock and the bathrooms were very out of date. We were very unhappy with the rooms I felt like I was sleeping in a basement! On one morning we woke up to a pool of water in our room from a broken toilet. The water was leaking from the bottom and everything was soaked. I will return to Cancun, but I will stay at another hotel. You could not pay me to stay there for free." - Linda from Clinton, New Jersey

"The hotel is 2 stars at best. The air conditioning worked maybe 30% of the time. The lobby, elevators and restaurants were so hot, it was nearly unbearable. The hotel turns off the lights at night!!! I have never experienced such a thing. Upon departure, I had to walk down a long dark hallway to a lobby, only to get in a hot and dark elevator. The lobby was a ghost town, there was no staff and no lights. The air at 5:00am was not on and I waited outside alone until my shuttle arrived. The spa is the only thing that the RIU seems to have going for them!! " - C from Detroit, Michigan

"The grounds of the hotel are immaculate. The pools were wonderful. I think there were four of them. The ocean frontage was great. I had heard concerns over the rocks, but didn't find them to be a problem. The food...I'm not really one for buffets. Everyday the food was the same at the buffets. Some (not all) didn't look really appealing, although no one got sick during our stay there. The Japanese restaurant was really a nice change and I'd really recommend that you try it out. The Room...had an awful smell the first night. The shower water smelled like rotten eggs. We talked to the front desk and they did send someone to look at the problem within an hour. After a day the room smell seemed to disappear. The beds were hard and the linens and towels were old. The TV was small and old as well. Can you believe they still use keys for the doors and safe? The rooms really need to be upgraded to the same level as the grounds!!!! The lobby area is really outdated and the furniture there is old as well. Staff at the restaurants, pools and bars were very friendly." - Linda from Winnipeg, Canada

"It was my first time at Cancun. Eerything was awesome and beautiful from 15th floor to the middle of the ocean where I did para-sailing for first time in my life (I always dreaming to do that) yes finally I did it and also snorkeling but unfortunately after 10min. I got phobic and I couldn't continue, but I recommend to my friends, family and everybody to go and see Cancun and especially Riu Cancun with all and best entertainment for one years old to 100 years old everybody had fun at any time of day with does young and full energy, nice looking kids kept every body busy without to fill go out from that hotel. The only thing I would like to suggest them to use better detergent and better quality for sheets. When you go to sleep you can smell better so you don't have to spray perfume before go to bed. (that was what I did for 5 nights). I wish for everybody who goes vacation can enjoy as much as they can. Bon voyage." - Adrina from Glendale, California

"There was 12 of us that went for a week and it was awesome. You could have not ask for a better time and place. Everything was great; the beer, the food, the pool, dancing, ocean, the flight and better yet....the staff. Poco was one of the staff members and he took care of us all week long. If you ever get a chance to go, make sure you don't miss out. We're hoping to go back in Oct '09 to have another BLAST. See you at the RIU in Oct 09." - Kevin from Virginia

"The resort was beautiful but the rooms were awful. It felt like sleeping in a Motel 6. The beds were pushed together and hard as a rock. Plus there was an awful smell in the room. Everything else was wonderful but I think attention needs to be focused on those rooms!" - Julie from San Antonio, Texas

"We have been in Cancun ten times and this was our first time at the Riu Cancun. We loved it. Service was excellent, rooms were clean, food was perfect, pool area was kept very clean as were the grounds. The staff go out of their way to make you feel welcome. My husband had chest pains one night and I went to the front desk to ask about a doctor. Before I got back to the room, the doctor was there as was the hotel manager. I would highly recommend this resort for anyone as it has everything to offer the young and the older folk as well." - Eldon & Janice from Pugwas, Nova Scotia

"Our first time to Cancun and we chose to stay at the RIU Cancun hotel/resort. Excellent choice!! The hotel is kept spotless. Room was very nice with a terrific balcony and view. Staff was friendly and very accessable. What can I say about the food.........except fabulous!. Something for everyone, at any time of the day. Nothing like having your breakfast outside on a shaded veranda overlooking the beach and pool. The beach is relatively small but very well kept and clean. More than enough lounge chairs for everyone at the beach and the pool. And the entertainment...... WOW. The kids on the entertainment staff made our stay so much fun. From the sheduled activities you could sign up for to the impromtue fun and games in the pool, and lets not forget the nightly shows. These kids are a huge asset to the resort. You felt as though you got to know them all by the end of your stay........always friendly, always smiling. Would I recommend it?? All I can say is we have already made plans to return next year. :-)." - M. from Port Washington, Wisconsin
