Ohana Waikiki West Hotel

The Ohana Waikiki West has recently been sold to an investment group which is planning extensive renovations in the spring of 2014. The Waikiki West will continue to be managed and operated by Outrigger Hotels, but look for renovations to refine and redefine this Waikiki hotel as a deluxe property.

The Waikiki West has always been one of our favorite moderate hotels in the Waikiki area. It is located directly behind the famous International Marketplace. The Wakiki West Hotel is part of the Ohana brand of family style accommodations by Outrigger Hotels Hawaii which has a reputation in Hawaii for their very comfortable hotels with friendly staff. Although the Waikiki West Hotel is 3 blocks to the beach, the walk is short and right through central Waikiki. It has a nice 2nd floor pool with a food and beverage pool bar. The Ohana Waikiki West Hotel has a couple of restaurants, including a very popular Chili's. The rooms are decent sized and nicely appointed, but basic.

FYI: The least expensive rooms at The Ohana Waikiki West Hotel are "no-view" overlooking the backside alley, so if the view counts to you, request city view room category.

Facilities:
663 Rooms, 18 Stories, Air Conditioning, 2nd floor Pool, 2 Restaurants, 3-Blocks to Waikiki Beach, Parking

"The staff was very unclear on rules as well as not considerate to guests needs. They could not accommodate our strict needs. Rooms and bathrooms need renovations. The location is very loud due to the various clubs that surround this area. Dont ask for an upgrade because they will lie and then shove something down your throat. Parking sucks! the garage is so tight with small stalls, dont attempt to bring an SUV in there, unless you want to struggle." - Arnold from Honolulu, HI

"We have stayed at the Ohana Waikiki West 5 times now and we love it. The first time we stayed there was when we got married on Oahu in 1986. Many upgrades have been made since those days. Great rooms, awesome staff and a perfect size pool. In the hub of Waikiki so everything is in walking distance. The beach is only a short walk. We will be staying here again for sure." - Joseph from Salt Spring Island, British Columbia, Canada

"We decided to book this hotel based on the price. It was within our range and judging by the virtial tour seemed like a really nice deal. Dont be fooled by the pictures. They must have picked the only room in the hotel that nobody ever stayed in. Our room was nothing like the one pictured. There were dirty handprints on the walls, scuff marks on the walls and handprints on the sliding glass doors as if it handt been cleaned from the last people. There was mold growing around the air vents and bathroom door. The bathroom was very small but exceptable for the use. We never could figure out how to program the in room safe so we couldnt use it. There were only three elevators for 17 floors of guests. The wait got pretty long at times. We actually used the stairs a few times to save on time. The first few days we were there the pool was pretty couldy, never did go down there. The nice thing about staying here was that it is very nicely located close to pretty much everything. The bus route is right there along with the trolley. We never had any trouble locating anything for the most part and the beach was very close. We didnt spend much time in the room except for sleeping and showering, so we didnt try to change hotels or cause too much fuss. I did feel however, that it is only right to let anyone else considering this place know the real skinny. When I go back to visit again I will not stay here unless they upgrade the standard and clean things up a bit." - Cathy from Tularosa, New Mexico

"The staff was friendly and helpfull. The rooms were a bit small but we were not there to spend alot of time in our room. We did not have a ocean view room, but again we did not spend alot of time at the hotel. We were within walking distance to every where we needed to go. The elevators were always very busy and a bit slow. We enjoyed the view from the roof top bar as well as the food and drinks. I would recommend this hotel to others on a budget." - Roxie and Dave, from Worthington, Minn

"The Ohana West is a decent place to stay, with average rooms and good service. I would recommend the Ohana Waikiki West if money is an issue and kids are traveling along. The bar and pool area was wonderful; it was a place to go at night without having to leave the hotel and worry about transportation." " - Alex from San Jose, Calif.

"This hotel was great, very low price but very nice. We arrived after we had booked a simple saver room, when we checked in, they immediatley upgrated us to a kitchette ocean view room, it was absolutely beautiful. The staff were very helpful, the elevators are a bit slow, but the overall was perfect. We would definatley stay here again!" - Terrah from Penticton, British Columbia, Canada
