"Occidental Grand Puerto Vallarta is a nice place but not for the handicap. I cannot think of another major resort so poorly equipped. The only correct thing was the handicap room, it was very nice, large, and the bathroom shower was fabulous. However, I did not go all the way down there to stay in my room. I knew that I was in trouble when I encountered the very first ramp into the building. The first section of it was too steep for my electric Luggie Scooter. I have traveled all over the world with my Luggie and only encountered this problem on a few ships at high tide. The outside ramp to go to the buffet was even steeper and useless to me. The only access to the buffet and Italian restaurants was through the bar. There was a threshold going out that was two inches high with a very narrow one-inch board to help make the transition. Taking this constantly ruined my steering. In addition, my Luggie needs to be shipped back to the vendor for reconditioning. This bump also did wonders for my spine, which is why I cannot walk to begin with. After this transition, there was a second jam not quite as bad, but certainly not handicap friendly. The Mexican Restaurant was impossible. There was a foot and a half step down to get into it. Yes, the staff was more than willing to carry my Luggie down and up. However, this did nothing for me to transfer and transition. We stopped eating there as it was just too difficult. One sidewalk had a bank so steep I thought I would tip over. I found only one toilet in the entire facility with a handicap stall. The rest were either inaccessible or too small to be of use. Therefore, it was all the way back to my room every time I had to use the toilet. The staff was friendly and truly tried to help, but they could not make up for the inappropriate handicap facilities." - Arthur from Sedona, Arizona

"This hotel was awesome. There have been renovations and the staff are amazing. They remember what you drink at the buffet and the bars. The ocean is awesome with whales and dolphins right there. Lots of different things to do in and around resort. I will go back." - Amber from Kelowna, British Columbia

"It stinks, and so will you after your clothes have been in any of their rooms. Don't go. Plenty of resorts of comparable price which are much nicer. I generally choose 5 Apple or 5 star hotels and was extremely disappointed in every aspect of this property. The time-share hounds will drive you crazy!!" - Becky from Dubuque, Iowa

"Worst vacation experience I've had. Room was not ready when we arrived. Rooms smelled of mold and mildew which caused our clothing to smell as well. Outdated rooms, no clock in rooms, beds were as hard as concrete, TV didn't work well and had very few American programs. Towels in room were frayed and thin (pool towels were better). Not enough towels supplied in the room. Air conditioning made loud continuous noise. Continuous water dripping noise. Pool was green and dirty, very slipery around pool, felt discriminated against - all activities and shows were geared toward Mexicans only. Food was terrible and not all restaurants were included in the all-inclusive price. Very few activities offered." - Patricia, from New Lenox, Illinois
