The Hyatt Regency Maui has been the Queen of Kaanapali Hotels for years. The Hyatt Maui has just completed (May 2014) a $12 million upgrade which included attention to suites, luau grounds and two of its restaurants. The Hyatt spent $5 million on 21 Ocean Suites and seven Deluxe Ocean Suites which now have hardwood flooring, enlarged bathrooms, new furniture and updated theme wallpaper. She's looking great and ready for Hawaii tourism’s great comeback. While there may be new competition, the Hyatt Maui remains THE place to stay in Kaanapali Beach. The Hyatt Regency Maui Hotel and Spa is located on 40 acres and is one of the finest luxury hotels on the island. The Hyatt Maui has 837 guest rooms (including 31 suites), 18 stories, 12,000 sq ft Spa Moana, a half acre pool with water slide, and sandy beach approach to the kid's pool. The manicured gardens are beautiful and the beach is very nice.

Facilities:
837 nicely appointed rooms, very large free-form pool with waterfalls and a 150 ft water slide, indoor and outdoor Jacuzzis, Pool area snack, cocktail & towel service. Hyatt Maui has 5 restaurants, lobby bar, night club and cocktail lounge. Spa Moana for a complete array of treatments and a full fitness center.

"View from our ocean-front room"

Remarks:
"As a travel agent, I tend to be a bit more critical of properties than the average guest since I am looking at from my clients eyes---- ie: is it worth the money, will they be happy at the resort, how is the service, food, rooms, etc. I can say that since we stayed there, I have put other clients at this resort and will continue to do so.

The Pros:
1. This resort is absolutely gorgeous. We did travel agent site inspections of about 8 other resorts in Maui during our stay, and this is probably the most beautiful on the island (Grand Wailea may have more of a wow factor). The open air lobby is a tropical rain forest complete with parrots, penguins and garden pathways. It truly has the WOW factor.
2. Check in and service- we arrived about 3pm. Yes, it is about a 50 minute drive from the airport but in Maui, none of the hotels are close to the airport. We were given a lei greeting and check in was a breeze. We were escorted to our room by a very friendly bell hop who showed us where all of the restaurants were on the way to our room in the atrium tower.
3. The room- deluxe oceanfront room on the 15th floor- simply stunning view overlooking the pool and the ocean. The lanai was a nice size with plants on either side for more privacy. The walk in closet was a very nice size as was the bathroom. The in room bathroom amenities were very nice and always replenished. Coffee and tea service in the room was nicely presented.
4. The BED- to die for. Never slept so well in my life.
5. Hotel service- let me explain that this is something that I would have also done for my clients but since it was for me, I really got to see how the hotel would handle this. The pillows and duvet in the rooms are down and I am highly allergic to feathers. I emailed my contact at the hotel and requested to have all down removed from the room with the room aired out prior to our arrival. Had this not be done, I would be in allergy hell so I would know right away. We got to the room, it was down free and extra (non down) blankets were placed out for us. No complaints there at all.
6. The pool is gorgeous with waterfalls, grotto bar and water slide. Pool towels were plentiful- all you needed to do was show your room key and they would give you as many towels as you wanted. Keep this in mind for when you are going to the beach in other parts of the island. Lounge chairs were always available (remember we went in lower season- although there were tons of conferences going on and the attendees brought their families). The chairs all had sun canopies which I appreciated. There were waitresses to bring drinks and food throughout the day. The only

Cons:
1. No turn down service at night- was a bit surprised at that with a hotel of this caliber and we did receive it at the Waikiki Hyatt.
2. Beach is very small (there is only room for beach chairs on either side of resort). Wailea area beaches are much deeper.
3. The pool area might be a problem for people with hip or knee issues- this in not an infinity pool and does require using a ladder or deep steps to get in or out.

I have sent many honeymooners and families to this resort and will continue to do so. I would recommend this resort and would go back again without hesitation. If you have specific questions, feel free to email me directly."

"Good resort, however, it really needs renovation. This hotel really is showing its age. The bathrooms are very small and need extensive remodeling. The staff is not very friendly unless they receive a large tip. Next time in Maui - I will try the Grand Wailea" - Jean from Plainfield, Illinois

"What a FANTASTIC hotel. We spent 3 days just hanging around the hotel grounds. The amenities and options for entertainment were unbelievable. We swam in the pools; loved the live animals; shopped at Starbucks, Macys, Sandal Tree, and other mall-like shops; we took scuba lessons then swam with the turtles in the ocean; worked out in the gym 5 of the 7 days; got a massage; used the on-site business office for internet access; ate dinner in each restaurant; and LOVED the sunsets on the beach. What a paradise. Thank you for the wonderful treatment with no glitches. In a word...awesome" - Tom & Christine from Columbus, Ohio

"Once you drive onto the resort grounds.. the Aloha spirit embraces you and your stress level dissapates and morphs into an unbelevably tranquil state. (This IS before your first Mai Tai!) The staff is charming, efficient, and professional. We made fast friends with Russell, who warmly greeted us and amicably chatted as he escorted us to our ocean front room. Every time we passed him by.. he managed to say Hello to us BY name! He deserves the title of Employee of the Year! Our package included a most sumptuous buffet at the Son-Z Swan Court - we must praise Ms. Liz - a naturally beautiful & vivacious Wahine who tended to our every whim and started our day with a full belly and a positive attitude! The housekeeping staff is also to be commended..so accomodating and cheerful. Last, but certainly not least is Seth, the hotel manager. He is a true asset to the Hyatt team and is the reason we will be returning for another week next February " - Gary and Sonia from Newport Beach, Calif

"My experience was very hostile. Greeting was ok, but the long ck-in line and slow service was surprising. The resort looks good, but it is not as it may seem. The staff is limited, so things moves slower than expected. There was no food or drink service for the beach. We waited for our drinks at the bar. On first impression, it seems very nice.We had a reservation of a guaranteed room rate. The hotel did not honor this rate and called our room to tell us that we would be charged a higher rate than expected, if we stayed. There was no attempt to nicely accomodate us, at possibly a AAA, AARP or other welcoming rate. I spoke with the front office and they said, they could not honor the reserved rate. Again there was no attempt to accomodate me. Hyatt hotels leaves a very bad impression on me & my faimly" - Carolyn from Homewood, Illinois
