"Upon check-in, we discovered that the hotel was over booked and thus, they could upgrade us to the room we originally planned on for only two nights and then would move us into a standard room. However, for $1000 more (we stayed using Hilton Honor Points), we could be upgraded for our entire stay. Yet, they didn't have rooms available? Sounds fishy right? Did to us at least. We accepted being put in a standard room for the entire stay. This room was overlooking the parking garage and just outside were the pool filter motors. Thus, the entire stay we had to leave our balcony door shut due to the noise level. We are simple folks from the Midwest and felt like we were being "looked down upon" by the check-in clerk. The check-in experience was so negative, we vowed not to spend a dime more at the hotel. Thus, we did not eat there, we did not buy any drinks there, we refused valet parking and bell service, we didn't rent a refrigerator for $25 dollars a day and instead bought a couple of styrofoam coolers to keep our beverages and snacks cool. Trust me when I say, money was not the issue, rather it is the principle...we felt that we were being taken advantage of from the get go. The main pool is great, especially for kids, but crowded. The beach is very nice. The hotels facilities are impressive. This is a very pretentoius feeling hotel that caters to the rich, beautiful people yet their service isn't impressive at least for us "smucks" who stay their using Hilton points. We have stayed at the Hilton Hawaiin Village twice in Oahu and the service was excellent, I cannot say the same about the Grand Wailea. Our next trip is currently being planned to the Hilton Waikoloa Village on the Big Island, we are Hilton people; but will never stay at the Grand Wailea again." - Michelle from Chicago, Illinois

"This is a great place for family or couples i have stayed at many hyatts over the years and many other high end resorts this one is in my top 5 the grouds are well kept and the pool my kids would have been happy never leaving the pool area the only negative thing i can say about this resort is food selection....morning was good buffet and for lunch, yeah you can get a burger or sandwich buy the pool but evening dining, steak or sushi or italian all of which are high end.....so like us you will love this place and not want to leave but you will find yourself searching for a restaurant...walk up the beach to whalers or drive to Lahina on Front Street, its around 5 min south of the hotel......oh yeah Costco is in front of the airport do yourself a favor and stop and get water and supplies for your stay you will save a ton!!!! Overall its a 5 star hotel and it truly is." - Mack from Visalia, Calif.

"The hotel lost my reservation and it was a nightmare that lasted 3 days including them locking me out of my room on one occasion. You would speak to front desk supervisor or client services and be assured that the problem was resolved and the next day the whole process was repeated, like the movie ground hog day, not the customer service that I expected. They did the minimal amount required to correct their mistake and lacked the commitment to excellence that I would expect for this level establishment. They never provide me with common courtesies, such as calling me back to update me on the room situation or simply saying they were sorry. The physical rooms are very nice but overall an unsatisfactory stay. They failed to live up to my expectations for common courtesy and professionalism." - Steve from Phoenix, Arizona
