"Four of us (adults, no kids and one adult who is a travel agent) went 2 years ago to The Sandpiper in FL. We quickly realized it was not what we expected, but made the best of it because the staff said remodeling and lots of contemporary looks were being added. Rooms were really dirty at the time -- small and had a very bad and stale odor; lobby was full of a mildew odor and grounds were not great. Golf course is an absolute joke. Plus it's in a very shady part of Port St. Lucie. But the good thing was the food.... I remember never eating so well or having such wonderfully fresh and tasty food. It was because they had an excellently trained chef. And the service was lovely as well. All nicely laid out so you had a room for adults only. But there were lots of places for kids and families too and in fact, that was the majority of people there. (Also, Club Med is French so a lot of French families were there which made it nice and diverse for an American.)

Because of great memories of the food and because we heard it was remodeled, my husband and I decided to give it a try again and for our 30th wedding anniversary signed up for a 3 night stay for $1,100. I have never spent money more unwisely than I did here. And I have to say, we feel really badly about it because we had high expectations for our wedding anniversary. In fact, we were so unhappy that we left a day early. It was horrible. There was a tennis pro convention going on so getting onto the tennis court was difficult (but fun to watch them play.) Plus there is a full-fledged tennis school there which obviously takes precedence over everything else. The food was terrible (except for the chocolate bread which was really good) but most other food was at a level far below what a true chef would allow. We rarely ate much except fruit, cheese and bread. The fish was "fresh-frozen" so we were told; the entrees were out for a long time and thus very dry and the desserts were not worth the calories. In fact, often the foods that were provided didnt complement each other. And one evening we ate later (8:00) in order to avoid the onset of screaming kids and "dined" outside where you can order rather than go to the buffet. I ordered a linguini with shrimp scampi. Do you know what scampi are? They are very large shrimp in a garlic/butter/wine sauce. I got spaghetti with a few teeny- tiny rubbery shrimp and some cheese over it. I didnt eat but a few bites. My husband ordered a chicken dish that sounded great but it was tough and very dry. Why bother? How disappointing. NOTHING like the last time we were there. Couldnt have found one thing wrong last time but this visit--- really bad. This is a kids haven for sure because the food was such that kids wouldnt care about quality and entertainment was ALL kid oriented. I feel like for the same money, we couldve done 2 nights at The Ritz or some extremely expensive resort and had a very memorable time. Instead, we wasted a lot of money and had a very unhappy anniversary -- what should have been a special celebration turned out to be a negative memory. Also, after paying a lot of money to stay there, the WIFI was not even free! And after I paid $15 a day for it, it rarely worked. I don't know if it was a bad weekend or what but we feel like we really blew it and now have to wait until another year to spend that kind of money to celebrate an important date -- 31! It was quite disappointing and while families may enjoy it, I would not recommend it to singles, adults without kids, or people who really want to relax and enjoy their time in a romantic setting with great food. Im not trying to be negative and hurt a business, but I think travelers spending that much money should be aware of what they are in for. Perhaps other Club Med locales are better? I don't know." - Karyn from Boca Raton, Florida

"It was my first time at Club Med on July 6th but was excited to give it a try since I wanted to take a vacation with my 17 year old daughter. We flew in from Texas and were just ready to enjoy the resort. As we pulled up we were impressed with how welcoming the reception team was and how there was an abundance of things for us to do as a family. Most of the things about Club Med I liked so it is ashamed that one thing had to ruin it. First all the positive things and there are many; We spent most of our time at sailing and it was not only to just sail but it was our favorite part of the village. The staff at sailing were always ready and eager to not only help us but entertain and conversant with both my daughter and I. Another positive point was that we really enjoyed the shows and the dances we would do after. My daughter loved doing the Zumba and spending time with Alexander and Kimberly (who were so warm and full of energy). Before lunch we loved the pool dances and Matthew was great on the microphone getting everyone motivated. The one thing that I didn't appreciate and it ruined the end of my trip was that when doing archery my 17 year old daughter was hit on and flirted with right in front of me. While not giving attention to the other guests that were at archery. My daughter does look older but I felt that the color of her bracelet said it all and the staff should respect that. We would go to the bar to speak with the other guests and staff, but still this staff member gave too much (inappropriate) attention to my young daughter which made me feel very uncomfortable and unsafe to the point where I needed to keep a closer eye on the situation (which was not enjoyable for vacation). So I guess I am torn if I would go back because there were many positives but the company has to be careful and make sure the male staff understands the boundaries of what is appropriate." - Thomas from Austin, Texas

"As for staff members at that resort, you can't give one rating. So, here they are either by category: Niko (runs FandB) is awesome. He gets the concept of service. The head chef is wonderful. Hes doing the best he can with the whole buffet option. The food was actually good. The other dining staff was also good. The bar staff was also good. As for everyone else, especially the front desk managers and the daycare staff, they all need lessons in customer service. I cannot begin to explain the poor service. To compensate for overbooking one night, they did us a "favor" by upgrading us for a night, making us move not once, but again the next day. FAIL At daycare, they gave my baby the wrong formula (she has milk allergies) and ended up getting a rash. Then, they denied the whole thing saying "both bottles were the ones you gave us" but I only gave them one. Our infant was only there an hour (just enough for us to take one dip in the pool). Do NOT put any kids under 5 in the daycare program. They mixed up the day of departure, even though I reconfirmed it three times. I also reconfirmed (three time) I needed a transfer that could accommodate baby seats. By the third time, they were so rude saying "I know, you have baby seats." When the van showed up, you guessed it, he couldn't accommodate baby seats. Thinking about Club med Sandpiper? Think again. " - John from New York City, New York

"Just returned from a great week at this resort. The staff was great...very helpful, friendly and the GOs were fabulous with my daugher(8). Myself and my son(14) are very picky eaters and there was always something on the buffet that we liked. My idea of sitting poolside with a drink and doing nothing was quickly replaced with all the activities that were available, including my first time on the trapeze and sailing. This resort is very family oriented and the kids were included in everything. I highly recommend this resort to anyone looking for a family vacation and look forward to planning our next visit!" - Wendy from Niagra Falls, Ontario, Canada
