Here's our Barcelo Maya Beach Resort Review
Barcelo Maya Beach Resort
The Barcelo Maya Beach Resort is one of the most popular all-inclusive resorts on Playa del Carmen. It is a fabulous Mayan style beach resort, built along a mile long stretch of beautiful white sand beach. Lounge by one of the three large pools, or by the beach under one of the many palm trees. The Barcelo Maya Beach Resort is usually priced very reasonable for such a fine quality all-inclusive resort.

Barcelo Maya Beach Hotel Room
Facilities:
612 rooms, All-Inclusive Resort which means all meals/snacks, unlimited domestic drinks until 2:00 am, 2 buffet dining rooms and three restaurants, six bars, 24 hour room service (fee), nightly entertainment, three swimming pools, gym, spa (fee), non-motorized water sports and six tennis courts.

"Highly recommended if you are looking to relax and forget your work, the Barcelo Resort and any of its hotels are very good. The food delicious, the drinks are also good (if you've asked for the strawberry Daiquiri). Definitely very well maintained in all aspects that surround this resort from their evening shows to its beach." - Alfredo from Nuevo Leon, Mexico

"We stayed at The Maya Beach Resort from Oct. 9-16, 2011. It is a beautiful resort. The buffets were excellent. The Spanish and Mexican Restaurants were fabulous. The only 2 complaints we have is that EVERY NIGHT there were noisy guests in the hallways. They were yelling, whistling, singing, running back and forth, slamming doors. It went on for 20-30 min. at various times. 2 am. again at 3, 4, 5am. We have never been on an all-inclusive vacation before and were so looking forward to this. We went with another couple and they went to the front desk to complain several times and nothing was ever done. We met up with a gentleman from Quebec who had the same problem. He made his complaint and was immediately moved to The Palace. (Their best facility) The housekeeping service was lacking. We had been told from other people that if you leave a couple dollars on the pillow you will be treated very well. Our friends got mouthwash, disposable razors, chocolates, etc. We got no facecloths on one day. Next day no facecloths or hand towels....no chocolates, etc. After 2 days of this we quit leaving tips on the pillow. After 6 nights of very little sleep my husband and I got sick. Will definitely go back to Mexico but probably not to this resort." - Glen & Barb from Abbotsford, BC, Canada

"We spent a wonderful week here and I'd highly recommend this resort. Getting there involved a fairly long drive from the airport, but we certainly didn't encounter any police or military checkpoints en route to the resort, as another reviewer indicated. The resort is paradise. The grounds are lush and spectacular and extremely well-maintained and the buildings are beautiful. The food at the buffet was very good with a wide variety of dishes to choose from. We ate dinner outside the buffet restaurant only once at the Spanish restaurant, which was somewhat disappointing; however, it wasn't necessary to pay extra to eat here. The beds were fine and while the pillows were not comfortable, come on....that shouldn't make or break a trip. The available activities offered at the resort are plentiful and lessons are well-taught. There were some problems obtaining towels one day, but this didn't dampen my enthusiasm for the place. There were never any difficulties obtaining cots at the beach, which is well-maintained, clean and sandy although there are some rocky spots underwater." - Jen from Toronto, Canada

"Dont go! Try the eastern Caribbean instead. The beach was incredible, but that was about it... They advertise everything is all-inclusive, but that was not the case. If you want to go to one of the premier restaurants, you have to pay. Only the buffets are included. They also state that gratuities are included. Maybe so, but unless you tip, the service is marginal. It was almost impossible to get a drink at one of the bars, but once we showed cash, the drinks didn't stop coming. We went with a wedding party of sixty people, 35 of us got sick at one point during the stay. Beware of the water and any food that isn't prepared that night. Stay away from anything that can be prepared and then simply heated up. The rooms were immaculate and the housekeeping service was exceptional, but the beds and pillows were the most uncomfortable things I ever slept on. On your way to the resort, you'll have to go through at least four military or police check points. Be prepared to have your luggage searched by armed military personnel. Not a pleasant experience." - Bill from Boston, Mass

"The hotel room was fine - abeit on the shabby side. Never before had to use room key to keep AC and lights on. Advertised as all-inclusive but in order to eat at some resturants, you do have to pay and they apply some sort of tax on the reservations. We always do an all-inclusive and this is the first time dining and room service were additional fees. Hotel information stated there were adult pools - this is not the case. There are kids of all ages hanging around the pool bars. They seem to be short staffed - we spent alot of time waiting in restaurants, buffets etc.....the staff that was on duty were friendly but way over-worked. The beach was spectacular, one of the most beautiful we have found. All in all, if you are happy paying for non-buffet dinners, spending your time taking trams to other parts of the resort, this will work for you. But if your looking for peaceful setting, upscale food, drinks and service, look elsewhere. We have stayed at this chain's property in PV and loved it, so this was a real let-down." - Mary from Milwaukee, Wisconsin

"The only complaint I had about the whole place was the electrical plug-ins in our room did not accomodate a larger plug. So I had to keep going to other people rooms to plug in things. I probably should have just asked for an extension cord or get us moved to another room. The resort was excellent. It was the best vacation ever. It is huge, so bring good walking shoes." - Marilyn from Superior, Wisconsin
