The Barcelo Maya Beach Resort is one of the most popular all-inclusive resorts on Playa del Carmen. It is a fabulous Mayan style beach resort, built along a mile long stretch of beautiful white sand beach. Lounge by one of the three large pools, or by the beach under one of the many palm trees. The Barcelo Maya Beach Resort is usually priced very reasonable for such a fine quality all-inclusive resort.
This resort is all-inclusive which means all meals/snacks, unlimited domestic drinks until 2:00 am, six restaurants, six bars, 24 hour room service (fee), nightly entertainment, three swimming pools, gym, spa (fee), non-motorized water sports and six tennis courts.

"The hotel room was fine - abeit on the shabby side. Never before had to use room key to keep AC and lights on. Advertised as all-inclusive but in order to eat at some resturants, you do have to pay and they apply some sort of tax on the reservations. We always do an all-inclusive and this is the first time dining and room service were additional fees. Hotel information stated there were adult pools - this is not the case. There are kids of all ages hanging around the pool bars. They seem to be short staffed - we spent alot of time waiting in restaurants, buffets etc.....the staff that was on duty were friendly but way over-worked. The beach was spectacular, one of the most beautiful we have found. All in all, if you are happy paying for non-buffet dinners, spending your time taking trams to other parts of the resort, this will work for you. But if your looking for peaceful setting, upscale food, drinks and service, look elsewhere. We have stayed at this chain's property in PV and loved it - so this was a real let down." - Mary from Milwaukee, Wisc

"The only complaint I had about the whole place was the electrical plug-ins in our room did not accomodate a larger plug. So I had to keep going to other people rooms to plug in things. I probably should have just asked for an extension cord or get us moved to another room. The resort was excellent. It was the best vacation ever. It is huge, so bring good walking shoes."

"MATTRESSES ON BEDS WERE VERY HARD! OTHERWISE, BEST VACATION WE EVER TOOK. BEACH WAS BEAUTIFUL AND THE POOLS WERE IMMACULATE. STAFF WAS SO HELPFUL AND NICE. TOOK 2 TEENAGERS and THEY WERE NEVER BORED. FOOD WAS GREAT AND ENJOYED THE SHOPPING ON-SITE. NEVER LEFT THE RESORT AND STILL FEEL LIKE WE DIDNT GET A CHANCE TO DO EVERYTHING. "This was our first time at the resort. We came for our 11yr anniversary. The room was wonderful and the staff was very helpful. The food was very good at the buffets but alot of the time it was cold. The resturants were excellent! An all inclusive is the way to go, you dont have to worry about carrying money or getting ripped off. There is also alot for the kids to do. Next time we will bring them along. All in All it was the best trip weve been on."

"My wife,2 teenaged daughters and I had the best vacation of our lives at the Barcelo Maya. The resort was beautifully designed and it has an exotic feel to it everywhere with friendly smiles from all of the staff. The beach with its corral reef just 30 feet away is absolutely amazing and convenient. You can easily spend days there enjoying what they have to offer without leaving. The food was good, available and plentiful and the beach was the best I had ever been on with calm clear water and exquisite white, soft sand. The rooms were average and the pool too cold for most people to enjoy. However, we will go back and enjoy this resort again!"

"Did not want to leave! Best vacation ever. Clean throughout the hotel complex, friendly staff, wonderful food. We ate mostly at the buffets due to the wide variety of food. Jose and Eric were the best, providing us with superb service and the personal touch. The all inclusive was wonderful with not surprise add on prices. Definitely bring your own glasses for drinks as the bar glasses are very small. Took in all sorts of packages: horseback riding, parasailing, xcaret, and swimming with the dolphins while at xcaret! This is well worth the price. Swim for an hour amongst the dolphins. The worst part of the trip....shuttling back and forth from the airport. There are no such things as blinkers and driving lanes. Another activity we did not really enjoy was dinner on the pirate ship. This is great for singles looking for dancing, drinking and partying while rolling on the waves. It is very loud and sure to get you sea sick if you cant take the movement. Already planning our next vacation at the Barcelo for our 25th wedding anniversary." - Jerry, from Duluth, Minn

"I was at the Barcelo durring hurricane Wilma. It was indeed an exciting trip! The resort and staff were well prepared for inclement weather. There was no time that i did not feel safe at the Barcelo Maya. The resort is safe, In fact they started moving guests from other resorts to the Barcelo when the storm began. Although I was not able to do all of the things that I had hoped to do in Mexico, I did see first hand a class 5 hurricane. It was a vacation I will never forget."

"It took us 4 hours to finally get to the hotel. The driver got lost and waitd 3 hours to finally ask someone how to get to the hotel. The hotel was very nice. There wasn't anyone trying to sell you stuff on the beach. We had to wait for the buffet to open before we could get. Our children were so hungry since we had missed lunch. The beach is absolutely beautiful. Although we couldn't snorkel there or swim out because the water was so rough. They have someone sit down with you to schedule any trips you want to take and all the transportation to those outings. The food was excellent. I am not one to try fish stuff. I ate Shark tacos. They were great! What I really liked is that the water and ice were safe and did not make you sick. They have filtered water and bottled water. My husband drank margaritas from the bar, I was afraid he would get sick from their water. We never did. The drinks are very strong though. He doesn't normally drink, but he said their drinks are very weak. They also have terrific shows at the hotel, with a romantic atmosphere. But it is also kid friendly. We did something every day. Next time we are going to spend more time enjoying the hotels entertainment. My children said it was the best vacation ever. My 10 year old daughter wrote us a thank you note every morning. I would recommend this hotel to everyone. It is the best place for a family or a couple wanting privacy. It was wonderful." - Danny and Shana, from Broken Arrow, OK
